Description Alrighty, I didn't really think it was necessary to show the tunic in progress, there's plenty of tutorials online, and it's a pretty basic pattern. This is just for a few friends who wanted to see some updates.

There's poor lighting & no flash, so the colour is faded, apologies! I also didn't add the belt loops yet, and the belt is just to give an idea of how it'll look when I wear it properly. Here's a quick rundown for those interested~

Tunic is a jersey knit (each tunic & hat took 2 XL t-shirts of the proper colour), since I had an abundance of shirts giving for free from work, and I can't wear XL size, I use them for fabric. If there are symbols or markings on the tees, just invert them, so the symbol is inside. Yes yes, I understand jersey knit has a different weave on each side, but for us poor pandas, it still looks great in photo, and is a great option to re-use & recycle materials in the house. Cosplay should be open to everyone, not just the rich.

Collar has a thick interfacing, to help keep it's shape. I was very happy at how it turned out, it took some thinking to avoid having a seam on the edge, so it's hidden underneath. There is actually a lining to this tunic, I used a couple black t-shirts to thicken it up. It doesn't fall as wavy because of the added material, but it does keep you a heck of a lot warmer. I love layers, even in the middle of summer, so this step can be skipped for most.

To also help with cost, I used the closest coloured thread I had in stock already, since all the hems are hidden, I didn't have to worry about it showing unless you slightly pull the seam to see it.

Total Cost: 15$ for 3 Tunics, including hats (Green, Red & Blue), plus lining for each. I had to buy another red t-shirt, because I only owned one. Plus two more tees in case of trial & errors, and future repairs.

If it's not too much trouble, would you mind putting up a link to the pattern that you used for this tunic? I can't find any good ones anywhere ;-;

I'm sorry, I did my own pattern for it from scratch. If you find a basic t-shirt pattern, it would probably be your easiest way to modify it, and just add a collar. Best of luck!

That's great! Think I'll try it out! Ordered 3 XL (I usually need XS-S) T-shirts for 7€ form fruit of the Loom and show you my results, when I'm ready! Thanks for the tip

No problem! I find when certain fabrics are too expensive, or almost impossible to find the right colour, there are other ways to get fabric. T-shirts are very helpful, but you will need to play around with the seams to fit it properly since it's not a flat shape. Looking forward to your results!

Oh, I /just/ realized that you weren't selling them for that. xD My bad! Recycling is great, bud. Most of my own fabrics are from Value Village and stuff. You're right about cosplay not being just for the rich. ;D

Wow, Li! I'd definitely buy one if I had the cash. Did you mean $15 for all three?! That seems ridiculously underpriced, bud. O:

No no, haha. It cost me 15$ to make all 3 tunics, they aren't for sale. They're for my Zelda project.

*noticed your second message* XDD Thrift stores are definitely gold mines sometimes, haha. I've been on a pretty tight budget for this project, so I had to save anywhere I could.

You could make a killing off of these, though. xD My sister said that she'd buy a tunic just to wear around, not even in costume.

Haha, probably. But I'd also have to pay more money to get more material if I made them to sell. These were so cheap, because I had tons of free t-shirts given to me in the colours I needed. Though, one tunic would easily be under 10$ all said and done. I've worn tunics to work... they are so comfortable.. >.>

Haha, ya these were the Save & Trade t-shirts we had to wear that entire week at work. XD Steve let me take all the XL, since we had extra, and the colour was perfect.

woah! looks amazing! is it possible to get a photo or two how the interfacing of the collar looks like on the inside?
and if these are T-shirts, are these longer due to the XL size? or have you done modifications to it?

Thanks! My camera is charging right now, but I'd be happy to take photos this weekend of some of the inside details.

They aren't longer, but I did stitch them thinner around the waist to accommodate my size. So basically, I un-stitched all the seams on the tee, so I had a front panel, back panel, and two sleeves. I used my pattern, placed it on top, and cut the right shape, then sewed it all together again. I had to also make sure the collar was placed properly, because it dips in a V, while most t-shirts are rounded.

Wonderful! I love seeing progress and details on the work
if you ever make this again, please do make a photoset of some sort of the progress~

so that is why you use a XL shirt? as they are quite large for your size?
ah yeah! true about the collar. tho good to see you found a neat solution for that!
I have huge problems attaching collars hahaha
yours looks amazing!

Oh ok! I wasn't sure if it was worth while, since the tunic is pretty basic. Though I do plan to show a bit more details on the boots, and harder accessories.

Yup! I'm fairly short... at 5'6", so XL had the right length for the tunic. The length was much more important, because otherwise I would have to split the top & skirt with separate patterns. I'd hide the seam underneath the belt, so you couldn't see it. This just resolved the issue, and kept it all one piece.

Aww, I appreciate that words! I also don't like collars, but I've had a good amount of practice with past costumes, haha.
