Description
This is one of my most recent works, an Amazon warrior. My impressions of this mysterious tribe is almost given by games and movies. I'm not sure what kind of style she should wear. It is said that the Amazon have been lived in Asia Minor, and someone said they are a branch of Persian. Even in South America, some tribe still keep tradition like them. At last I decided to draw an Amazon of my own. Errβ¦you think she is more like a samba dancer?β¦ And I put some close-up for details of my favorite in the next picture.Related content

She would fit with the pseudo-South American look, though the metal arms and armor would be more to a fantasy setting.Β If I remember my mythology, the Amazons were more from the steppes of southern Russia where the Scythians lived.Β But she still is a lovely figure.

You know a lot of Amazon women would cut one breast off because they were archers and it made it easier to aim?

Hi Xia.
Love the picture. Makes me wish I could draw/paint/anything.
I read your description on the Amazons.
I'm actually writing an historic-fictional book (actually there's 4 of them)
So, I've done a lot of research on them.
Anyway, my wife and I did an Amazon inspired photoshoot some years back and thought maybe
you'ld like to see them: [link]
The fifth smaller photo is a group shot and shows the costumes better.
Keep up the great work!
Brad

Beautiful work, but honestly, no self-respecting warrior would wear "armor" that covers so little. Pretty much useless, haha.

Well before the armors as we know them were invented (and even then they were mostly expensive and not something you'd see everywhere in the world ), many cultures had half-naked warriors.Β

That's my idea of an amazon!!!! A little bit aztecic.
She doesn't look like a samba dancer. She looks like a guard of a temple. You can see it in her eyes: she doesn't want to dance, she wants to protect and fight, keeping the secrets of her culture.
This picture inspired me very much. Thank you.

Very nice! A bit of a fusion with the old world legend of the amazons clothed in the culture and people of the new world. Despite the pin up nature of it, the armor actually has some use, it has a rather intricate design! Love the "fishing spear" as the primary weapon, with the greaves, sword and shield as a nod towards the classical greek legend of the amazons.
The hair in the ponytail that works off of the feathered headdress is interesting, I also like her skin shading, and the pale skin on the soles of her feet!
The grinning column figures are perhaps a bit weak in design? Mayans, for example liked anthroporphized sculpture--but not like that! Still, the outside architecture does give it a native American--or pulp adventure--sense to it!

I'd go with Persian
It would be closer to the mythology... you do realize there aren't actually tribes in South America that are like that, don't you?
Great image!

I think this might be one of the best depictions of an Amazon I've every seen. Whether it means a warrior woman from Greek mythology or a tribal warrior from the Amazon Basin, I can interpret her as either! I love the feather ornamentation and that leg armor is totally badass.

great work, I like that you gave the feet a change of color blending in with the rest of the body that most pple dont do when drawing ppl of a different race

Captivating! Especially like how you got the bottom of the feet to look like the bottom of a foot should - pale and a little wrinkled compared to the rest.

that's right: persians.
the greek myth was inspired from the fact that among ancient persians women were warriors too, and most of ancient greek art about amazons represents them horseriding(cavalry was the persian army elite) plus armed and dressed like persians soldiers.

Amazing character design. (Work this good practically demands a story to accompany it! )

I find the composition pretty sweet. The background has quite a bit of depth to it without distracting from the lady up front. Nice one.

Oh my you did great on her skin I think the hardest thing with colored skin is getting it to look real with out making it look like lifeless or fake like chocolate. Great job!

This is what I'm talking about! I just started some research on the archetype of the Amazons. They were a civilized nation of women that waged war on nations, of men. Now that's strong, smart & sexy!
I would love to post this illustration on my blog, with your permission and accompany it with an explanation of why you made the choices you did during the process of creating this incredible beauty???
Thank you. Kurt
