contest entry for the crystal empire!category: creativity contest
again sorry for the sloppy job on the background
im gonna go with a bit-creepy-entry starring the mane 6 (rainbow dash not included) dressed up as the negative elements for nightmare night, why are the costumes look so hoofin' real you ask?
with a little help from twilight's magic of course.
so anyways
pinkie pie as the negative laughter: discord
rarity as the negative generosity: nightmare moon
fluttershy as the negative kindness: king sombra
applejack as the negative honesty: crysalyss
and twilight sparkle as the negative magic: demon sunset shimmer
in this arc. rainbow dash failed to perform the sonic rainboom in their fillyhood days and died in a horrible accident.
so...
filly applejack was unhappy in manehattan so she ran away and tried to return to ponyville on her own. without the rainbow guiding her, she got so terribly lost and ventured to the changeling hive. now she is the commanding soldier in crysallys' hive. now they're plotting to overthrow celestia and take over all of equestria. i know she kinda looks like a zerg, heh. Β HIVEJACK
filly fluttershy got stranded in the ground, nopony knew that she was down there, then night fell. the dark, spooky night noises and everfree forest creatures scared her off and she kept running endlessly for her dear life. then she later on learned that the shadows were not foes but allies, the shadow sombra saw potential in her and took over her body. now imagine fluttershy attacking like a wolfo from the legends of zelda, with diamond hard armor and the deadly strategy of a weeping angel *shudders*. Crystals have overgrown on her body and what she is now is just an empty shell. SHYSTAL
unable to discover her destiny, filly rarity returned home in vain. she was a blankflank for so many years until that night of the 1000th summer sun celebration. twilight didnt become celestia's pupil thus celestia was the one who battled nightmare moon and defeated her. her remains lingered in the everfree forest calling forth souls in vain. rarity answered that call and together they merged and... sory i'm kinda making this up as i go along and im all out of ideas for NIGHTMARITY
anywho, failing celestia's entrance exam, filly twilight fled in shame. running away from the academy, her family, and canterlot forever. as years passed shame grew into hate and hate grew into anger. she spent years learning all that she could about the dark arts until she discovered the elements or harmony. with the influence of darkness, the elements of harmony turned to the darkside for some fresh chocolate chip cookies. twilight intends to use this power to end celestia's rein (and also revenge) and rule all of equestria with tyranny. DAELIT
finally theres sweet little pinkamena. the rock farm that she worked on just got an order for garden rocks for canterlot, so the family traveled to the kingdom for delivery and you all know where i'm going with this... pinkamena found discords statue. discord influenced her. blah blah blah so he managed to persuade pinkamena to become the vessel for chaos. DRAKAMENA.

What? RD died in a horrible accident? I would have thought she'd be the opposite of loyal and... not posed for this picture.

The direct antonym of "loyal" is "treacherous". I assume that would have to be Nightmare Moon.

HA! yes most people would think that.
but let's look at it at a different perspective
luna brings beauty within the darkness of night. stars and constellations artfully displayed on the night sky telling stories of the past and also provides navigation for travelers in the dark. also the moonlight provides as a substitute for the sun, softlight and still lights the darkness. who want's to sleep with a very bright light in the sky anyway.
her gifts are under appreciated, and thus her generosity unseen
think about it

Thought about it, and yes, that is the standard portrayal of Luna's transformation into Nightmare Moon.
However, Nightmare Moon herself (assuming she's a completely different persona from the Night Princess) sought to bring about eternal night in order to force ponies to see her handiwork and admire its beauty. She thought about her wants and desires - the need to be loved, the need to be appreciated and eventually the need to prove she's just as good if not better than Celestia - ahead of the needs of her subjects.
By trying to end the Day, Nightmare Moon betrayed the trust of the ponies of Equestria, and the trust of her sister.
You're right about how wonderful the nighttime sky is. However, another important function of the night is that it provides a time for ponies to rest and recuperate. They were not just laughing and playing all throughout Celestia's day, after all - they were working. They had families to care for, crops to grow, animals to feed and a whole litany of other things that could only be done during the full light of the Sun. At night, when the warmth and light is gone, the gentle calm of the darkness provided the perfect atmosphere for ponies to lay down and rest.
In becoming Nightmare Moon, Luna misinterpreted the actions of the ponies; they weren't shunning her night, they were finding comfort and the safety to lay down and sleep within it. Like you just did, she focused instead on the loveliness of the nighttime sky and her own desire to have all ponies appreciate it, and she became jealous. Yes, she was the younger sister. Yes, the ponies loved Celestia for the day. But she couldn't see that they found comfort in the night, and grew cold and angry at them for ignoring what she worked hard on.
Luna's was a gift of subtlety, something few would see but appreciate with great admiration and love.
That not every pony would see and understand it was supposed to be beside the point, and so by becoming the Nightmare and subjecting her subjects to the treasonous things she did, she betrayed them in favor of her own self-service.

read the description
in this alternate story, she failed to perform the rainboom in their filly days and supposively died
so the mane 6 didnt witness it and didn't receive their cutie marks resulting in their twisted futures
besides, there's no mlp main villan with negative loyalty. gilda maybe, but she's not a main villan

They need to learn how to read I guess. At first I was confused, but I figured you had a good reason for leaving her out, so away to the description I went!
