▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀
I've been working on this dragonling sculpture over the last few weeks, figure I'd post it here for people to see.
It's not finished yet, but it's getting there.
I have never done anything like this before. Ever. So it's an.. interesting learning experience.
-
Sculpted with Super Sculpey over a wire/foil armature.
Also, If you're wondering about the other dragon, That was my original project, but I was unsure how to best use the clay, so I made the smaller one as a test, and as practice to see how it went when It comes time for baking. I'm glad I did, Ive learned quite a bit from it.
Finished dragon here;

This looks great, I really like he scales. I was wondering, do you have something you use to cut them so they are identical or do you just cut the, by hand?

I didn't use anything to cut them, I sculpted each individual scale by hand. ^^

HELLO!
I'm not very good at sculpting right now, and I want to be able to do this
I have a question or two, can you please help?!

Okay.
1) How do you keep the sculpey so smooth, without any fingerprints or indents?
2) How do you do the scaling? I haven't been able to figure out how.
Thank you so much x3

I always end up with fingerprints all over my sculptures. I use a paintbrush to lightly smooth them out.
And for the scales, I made each scale individually and stuck them on one at a time. For the smaller scales on the face and the tip of the tail I carefully craved them in. It's very time consuming, but is totally worth it when its done.
Hope that helps, even if a little.

yes, it does help so much!
JUST ONE MORE QUESTION, IF YOU DON'T MIND.
How did you make the wire base for the wings?

I'm not that great at explaining, but I will refer you to a video demonstration that I found/used to help me.

I would. But I don't have the equipment to do so.
Plus, that particular sculpture took me about 3 months to make.

It looks really amazing. I can't believe you did this in your first try? Or atleasr first time doing somethink like this. It's marvelous!
I know i may sounds silly, but you did bake it in the end? Cuz it looks really soft, xD and isn't it bad to cook it with the wire inside it? (sorry for the buttload of questions )

Thankyou very much. Yes, this is the first time Ive ever made a sculpture. There was alot of trial and error involved, but I eventually got it right.
I did bake it when it was finished, yes. You can't really see from those pictures, but it was alot darker in colour when it came out the oven. It's not bad to bake a sculpture with an armature inside it, no. Most metals have a high melting point, and the clay I use bakes at a low temperature so there are no problems. - I use aluminum wire as it's very strong and doesn't rust over time.
And ask as many questions as you like, I will try my best to answer them for you.
