Description (buy this as print)
Every 12610 years, all planets of the Ina'ari-system are in conjunction, forming a line. At this timepoint all the energy emitted by the small white-dwarf-sun of this system (which is an anomaly in some sort) is focused by these planets as they contain a special mineral. The Uundraani know about this special event and their kind of mages, the 'Jin', are travling to this special event so they can assimilate this energy to bring their power to a new level.
This proposal is not harmless: those unable to deal with this massive amount of energy will be simply disintegrated. So only the masters of the Jin are able to handle this. And some say that a master fully 'charged up' is able to fold even time and space...

Overall

Vision

Originality

Technique

Impact

Glorious - in so many ways.

For a start, the story; simple, elegant, and tells enough of the image without boring or frustrating the reader; I know enough without being overwhelmed by the history or the lore. That to me is perfect story telling.

Then there is the imagery; it is pure gorgeous science-fiction; I love the alignments of the planets, the minimal colouring that yields impact to the image without descending into over-the-top flares. That said, the star's halo and light is well strained - its strong but not stupid.

The setting reminds me of Spock's travel inside V'Ger; it is vast, alien, god-like, and striking to the eye; I love this piece very much.

Overall, this is a superb piece.
