Description
This is the first non-my little pony pumpkin I've done in 3 years, I think! Since I started doing shirts for WeLoveFine, I've really come to love Catbug. I've been drawing a lot of him lately, so I decided to do a pumpkin form of him. It's not the easiest thing to explain how to do, but I actually learned how to carve pumpkins like that by buying one of the pumpkin carving kits in the store and then looking through the booklet of the designs that came with it. The first ones I ever did were from the homestarrunner site. I studied those pumpkin patterns, saw how they worked and then applied it to my own.
The basic rule is to make sure there are enough parts of the design still attached to the pumpkin so that it doesn't fall apart. I made that mistake many, many times when I started out carving pumpkins!

Yeah, I just googled watermelon carving and I came up with a whole bunch of them. There was a guy on deviantart that used to carve watermelons and pumpkins. I can't remember his name for the life of me, but I know he did an AWESOME derpy hooves pumpkin.
