Description
My artwork for Zygarde, the Dragon/Ground-Type "Z" Legendary known as the Order Pokémon from Pokémon X and Y. As soon as it was leaked last night I started drawing it. Had this art finished at 3 a.m. last night but could't get back online to upload it. Based on the images I saw, it seems some of the hexagon-shaped "scale" parts glow or sporadically blink white, so I reflected that in the artwork here. I'm kinda pleased with how this turned out.

The Norse mythology in the legends this time is really cool. Dragon/ground makes sense, given that it's a snake of the earth/underworld. I bet it gets some cool new poison moves too.

Not that I can see, but it does have the ability "Aura Break", which reverses moves such as Xerneas's Fairy Aura and Yveltal's Dark Aura.
There is a separate Poison/Dragon as well, not related to the legendaries. It's Skrelp's evolution.

This is what the Z pokemon legendary is? Hmmm..... Xerneas kinda resembles a neuron, Yveltal's body kind looks like blood veins, this one kinda looks like the cells that make up skin. So what does thins one represent? Xerneas is the Life Pokemon, and Yveltal is the Destruction Pokémon. So where does that leave Zygarde.

Like it says in the decription, it's classified as the Order Pokémon. So Life, Destruction, Order. "It's hypothesized that it's monitoring those who destroy the ecosystem from deep in the cave where it lives." (From its dex entry.)
Cool thought on the cell aspect, though. Hadn't thought of it that way.

This is of course a theory, I don't think it's been officially confirmed, but Zygarde is possibly based off of the Nidhogg in Norse Mythology. Xerneas might be based off the four stags that eat the leaves of the world tree Yggdrasill, and Yveltal might be from the hawk (Vedfolnir) that perches at the top of the tree. For the game, however, they switched Yveltal and Zygarde's roles as Destroyer and Preserver, respectively, according to Norse mythology. Hopefully the cute, mew-like legendary will be based on Ratatoskr, the squirrel-like creature that carries messages between Vedfolnir and Nidhogg. I'm also hoping for a Pokemon based on Jormungandr

ah i see, thats cool, i saw something like that awhile back, due to the myth, now i understand y its typed Dragon/ Ground...wish theyd at least make it look more like a dragon in some form, like the picture of the myth from ur 1st link, and green/ brown rather than black..but i guess black since both XY have black...

right? i mean we already know that villains in the game, team flare, supposedly only want money...which would be lame not incorporating their myths into it at least... having Yvetal for them would make sense, cuz its the destroyer of life"", but Xerneas idk...just wish theyd put in a meaningful reason to have them, like RSE and DPP...mainly. and i wonder how the movies will deal w/it..considering their seems to only be 3 legends so far...aside mega mewtwo, unless we get more mega legends, then theres more movies for that..

The trio represents the cycle of life. Xerneas is the herbivore, a stag related to life and nature. It is gentle and avoids conflict.
Yveltal is the predator, a raptor that brings death. It kills not to be cruel, but because it must.
Zygarde is the decomposer, a grub dwelling underground. It is abhorrent but has the most vital role in protecting the ecosystem.

It's either going to be what I draw next, or I'm just going to wait to draw it until its Sugimori art comes out. There are some details I'm not 100% sure about, and I don't have too much time to work on Sugimori art right now. Even drawing this thing was a stretch.

I believe Kanpachi (one of the leakers) was the first one to leak images of it. The images soon spread across various sites, and someone linked me to them.

I know PokeBeach's forum has an X/Y section with a thread devoted to the various leaks, so you may want to check there. I don't recall where Kanpachi is originally posting the leaks, unfortunately.

Hello, I was wondering about something, do you use brushes to make the patterns of the body of your pokemon artworks like on this one?

I'm impressed you finished it so quickly. Is it me, or does Zygarde not look like either a dragon or a ground type? When I first saw it, I thought it was a bug type. Anyway, the idea of a legendary with Garchomp's typing is scary. Hope there's a powerful ice type legendary this gen.

I sketch the outline on paper first, outline it, then scan it in. I use an Intuos4 (I think that's its name) tablet to color it in on the computer.
