    There’s a glass. A broken glass. It was not always broken. It used to be whole and could hold much water. But you broke it.
    Now you just have a table covered in shards of glass that cannot hold water.
     If you poured water onto the shards, the water would run over the surface and make everything wet. It’d make a mess. It would not hold water.
    If you placed the broken pieces back together like a puzzle and poured water into that, the fragile form would break and spill both water and glass everywhere. It would not hold water.
    If you took the pieces, fit them together, and glued them back into their original place, and then once more poured water into it, it might possibly hold some. There would still be cracks, naturally, but it may hold some water.

    Of course, it will never be the same. It will never hold as much water as before. There will always be leaks, no matter how hard you try to fix them.

    Because you broke it.

(This is kinda personal to me, but I still think it'd be interesting to hear what your interpretation of this little passage is. )
