Some images are crystal clear inside my head. Its like they are hammering my skull from the inside asking to let them out. This here was one of this cases. The moment i grabbed my pencils there was no turning back. I am happy with the end result, also happy that the hammering is over!

This one has some very interesting and different features in it, I think you really stretched yourself out with it in a very good way.Β  The darkness gives the viewer a wonderful sense of depth, and the lighting provides great shape to all of her features.Β  The texturing of her lips and skin are you definitely, but I like the way you allowed the smoke to reflect in the eye,Β  and just how beautifully you have drawn the smoke here from the parts over her skin to the parts floating over the darkness.Β  I also love the heart floating there in smoke, as it is perfectly placed in the picture .

This was an extension of chiaroscuro, or at least a modern version of it lol, you know i cant resist the strong vivid colors, i always end up breathing them with immense pleasure. Now your remark about the lips and skin texture reminds me of my brother in law, he always says this to me "you little squirrel i could recognize your work everywhere, even blindfolded"
If there was one single person to see the reflection of the smoke into her eye, that would be definitely you, you love details as much as i do.
And of course if there was ONE person again to see this little heart shaped pattern there it would be you and only you. And now this reminds me of a promise someone gave me some time ago about little hearts sneaking into a painting...
Now i want you to come sit next to me and share a cup of coffee, because i ll start getting busy with cooking here soon, okay?

kach-back In reply to XRlS [2013-08-17 20:00:27 +0000 UTC]

I had to look up what "chiaroscuro" was, and after reading about it I think this a wonderful extension of it exactly " the use of strong contrasts between light and dark, usually bold contrasts affecting a whole composition".Β  Your brother in law sums up your style of skin and texture perfectly, it is completely and utterly you. I might have gone with little imp, but that's just me.

You do know I love details and here I am amazed how you boldly covered what is a signature part of your work with the reflecting smoke.Β  Β  The heart shaped pattern I could not have missed, there is one in my current painting, and will be one in all of my subsequent ones, some will be easier to find then others.

A cup of coffee sounds great, I could use one right now, I have been painting lots of little tiny pine needles here.

I am sure your cooking will work out amazingly well.

Yes i thought there might be a chance you didnt know what chiaroscuro was but i knew you would goggle it anyway!

My brother in law knows me for the last 20 years, you realize i was a kid back then, this gives him the right to call me a little squirrel! By now i consider him as a brother anyway, and through all these years he has always been there for me. He loves me.

Now i wonder how on earth i am supposed to find YOUR little hearts in your paintings, do i need a microscope?

Allow me to make it a little easier to you, a coffee Β Β  that will be made by me and i ll also have and to go with it. Will that suffice?

I know your tiny pine needles, got some hanging on the wall over my bed... Β

Once again you have managed to educate me artistically. Β  In some ways I regret not having learned more of the history of art, and all of the different artistic movements and periods over time.

Your brother in law sounds wonderful, and he has definitely earned the right to call you a "little squirrel".

Well I will give you a hint, the heart in the next painting is amongst the foaming water. Β  There is one in this picture that I did not put there on purpose, but it was spotted there: kach-back.deviantart.com/art/R…

The coffee would be wonderful, but no sweets for me, I haven't even eaten breakfast here just yet.

You have my pine needles over your bed, I think your diptych will have many more to add to the collection of them there.

I will have to paint a whole forest of them for you I think.Β Β Β

You know what i believe? Art classes and in general art education is ofc good and useful, mostly it is a "shortcut" so you save time as others before you, offer you chewed food so you dont have to do it by yourself. In the end, so many things we have to do by ourselves, not to mention all the rest that CANT be replaced with any art class, such as passion and instincts.
My brother in law is a smarty pants, often i want to spank him, but always we cuddle and laugh a lot.

The foaming water got million details, you expect me to go fishing for a tiny heart?
Definitely yes, you must paint a whole forest for me. Also you must know how i take my coffee in case you need to fetch me one. Deal?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

kach-back In reply to XRlS [2013-08-18 20:51:43 +0000 UTC]

I had a pretty good sense that this would be your thinking here.Β  I would rather be educated on the types and styles of art from the past, but as you suggest I would only want to experience the actual styles be working on them myself.Β  There are definitely no shortcuts to making good art.

Passion and instinct are such integral parts of our art, I have noticed that overtime my instincts really take over, both in how I construct things, but also how I look at them to evaluate how I am doing on a particular piece.Β  Without the passion I feel my work would be lifeless and and without feeling, plus I could never motivate myself to finish the really big pieces. Β

Yes fishing is exactly what I am expecting of you.Β  Β

Paint you a whole forest, fetch you some coffee, sounds like the perfect job to me. Β  So how do you take your coffee?

you already are better then i am you have these instincts for pallets i never could effectively use oil is a life time of learning no one ever fully experiences its mysteries we all just pick a particular area we like and focus on it Β though i do use about 5 different styles of painting each with its own unique look but i prefer transparent painting the best Β

XRlS In reply to 21stCenturyDamocles [2013-08-18 10:12:41 +0000 UTC]

instincts is all i have, you have spent more years in education than me, true we are both in the learning process, it never truly ends, no?
our biggest difference is that you have picked your area of expertise, (oils) and i refuse to do so, i want it all, all media, all techniques, i need to stretch myself over all things, to touch, try and experience all .
So there, i will never be as good as a person dedicated to one medium.
i see your point about the other thing, i will keep my hands away, i didnt intent to do anything else anyway its not my business completely, you summed it up very nicely though regarding the 'dont try to pass one thing as something it is not' this is what pisses me off too. Who knows? Maybe one day i ll know for a fact if i am right about it or not.

i have worked in other media watercolor, pastel, leather, precious medals Β i have a miner in silversmithing and i ones thought i wanted to be a potter i also do wood working and furniture restoration. i own a quite a few antiques i occasionally build wooden clocks. Β  i just don't have the facilities right now to do many of those things. mainly im focused on my painting for the time being. you don't have to go to a school to learn every day is a learning process so don't feel bad about that i have learned more out of school then in school. mainly they just teach you about process its up to us to learn what to do with them. with the net one can educate ones self quite effectively. yes lots of tomfoolery going on there was just a big case here in the US of a man who defrauded the art public with dozens of fakes over 20 years though he did not try to pass them off as real thats the problem with doing master works you never know what happens after you sell them i never sell any of my master reworks i use them only as an area of study not that mine are good enough to fool any one. i always put the word fake under the painting so it can be seen under radio scaning i do it in lead white it shows up like a neon signe. i alsow paint the words origanal with a number code under my work but dont tell any one. LOL Β Β
