Description
I'm part of an equine forum called saddlesoap, and today (Rememberence Day) someone posted a link to an article written about the equines used in war. It really did make me think, and the article was very interesting. I decided to make a memorial manipulation, however my original idea wasn't working, and after attempting 3 or 4 manipulations this morning with great failure, I finally came up with this. I'm usre the horse could be placed better, but I like this design, and I hope you do to.This is in rememberence of all the equines who suffered, were wounded and were lost on the battlefields, aiding their heroic masters. I have great respect for all of those who have fought, died and survived their own wars.
The article (If anyone is interested) is located here: [link]
Thanks to;
for the horse
and Chris (archi3d) at flickr for the background
The lines are taken from 'In Flander's Fields' by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae
IN FLANDERS FIELDS the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

it's great you think of the horses
I live in Belgium where the flanders fields are so I saw the graves a couple of times
and there are so many graves it's scary
But world war 1 was a trenchwar
(don't know if it's written like this)
so I think most of the horses never came to the fireline

I do think of the men too, but not many people seem to ever remember the animals that helped.
It's true that most of them probably didn't, but many of them died draging machinery through the boggy land, struggling with little food and lameness. The article explains a lot
And thank you very much

It's interesting the way the poppies could also be seen like wounds on the horse. Congratulations on the news feature, too. Great job and sentiment. ~Wee
