Audition
I wanna try joining this cuz it looks like funnnn. I still wanna do exhibition stuff for TheHauntedLibraryOCT but I bet I could do both! Or cry, I mean, whichever! Plus there's no guarantee of me getting into Otherside so worst case slash best case I'm still a dirty froot loop!
I'm still considering this WIP cuz I don't know what might change while I work on the audition, so none of this is really final yet but ye. Feel free to ask questions, I might not be clear on stuff without realizing it, or maybe leaving out pretty important info I dunno!
Edit1: Made several changes so far, I've added a bit more to their personalities and got rid of my human form cuz screw that tbh, I'll show up for the most part as the color blob pfff. Also figured a back view of it would be good. Fixed a lot of handwriting to make it more legible, changed some wording so it was more clear, made Elliot a lot heavier, added a weakness, etc.
Edit2: Changed the color of Elliot's top to white cuz it was bugging me.
Elliot
Elliot loves to show off! If he can get someone to laugh or to gaze in awe, he's having a good day. One of his favorite things to do is to set up and play his cello in places where people frequent. Not only will that get him some money, but it will also get him attention, and boy he loves attention. He can be a bit sensitive about his music, though. He knows he's good, and he really is good, but people who don't like cello music, or his music, are obviously just big fat meanies who should violently get out of his life. He’s not above punching a heckler. He’ll lash out and people who hurt his poor little feelings.
Other people really aren't important to Elliot personally, other than being potential food. I MEAN WHAT? HE'S NEVER EATEN ANYONE BEFORE, SILLY. Okay, you could say he kind of sort of eats people, but not really! While he doesn't really have any qualms against physically eating them (he could probably count on one hand how many times he's done that), he prefers to eat their energy or life or soul or whatever as opposed to their flesh. But not all of it! That makes it okay, right? At least he'll justify it like that anyway. He's a good guy, he's just gotta eat too! So what if his favorite food is such a taboo eating it, people are just being oversensitive and stingy!
Though most of the reason he won't outright kill a person is because they're more useful still alive than dead. A corpse can't spread the word about how great his music was, or give him money, or bring him a bagel! Speaking of, he can eat regular food too. He loves regular food! But his stomach can be a bit sensitive.
This isn't to say he's never nice to anybody, though, he can be quite polite. Hell almost overly polite, he'll downright treat people like they're royalty. But really, that's just him continuing to put on a show. Beyond being an entertaining host, he has a hard time connecting with others and can be blunt and rude. If he can't get food, money, or a captivated audience from someone, then why bother? It's too tiring!
Elliot is not brave. If he is in his right mind and he becomes painfully aware that someone else is way more dangerous and powerful than he is, he will try to get out of there as fast as he can.
Elliot's Abilities
His instrument helps him not just to create music, but to make magic as well, and not in the metaphorical sense. One could call his cello his wand, which is used for will suppression, manipulation, and hypnosis. If his opponent is deaf, hates music, or is blocking their hearing, his power over them is significantly reduced to just about useless. That's okay, though. If he can't get into someone's head by playing, he'll just get into it by bashing it open. Note, he does not always cast when he is playing. If he is playing music, it might just be music! Casting and playing can exhaust him if it goes on for too long.
While playing, he influences the listener's mind. This can be as subtle as making a person crave chocolate ice cream, to handing him some cash, to walking off a cliff. That last one is pretty hard to get people to do, because self preservation is a strong force to fight against. The more morally against an action the person is, the more difficult it is for him to get them to perform the action, and the more it drains him.
The cello is a big unwieldy instrument that weighs him down, so he's not exactly agile. He's also pretty damn unwilling to part with it, as it is very important to him. If you separate him from his cello, he cannot cast magic and he has nothing to bash with. He will, however, become frantic in his attempts to retrieve it and very willing to throw himself into danger to do so. This can mean getting himself hurt, but also making him a lot less likely to be cautious about getting right up close and personal with whoever wronged him. He's no superman, but hoisting a cello around all the time has given him some decent strength.
Jen
Jen is scattered, easily distracted, and can be pretty forgetful. She may repeat things just because she completely forget she's already mentioned whatever she has said. Sometimes she may say something that she later realizes was stupid and stresses over this. Sometimes it was stupid, sometimes it wasn't and she's stressing herself out for nothing. For the most part she tries to laugh it off and lightheartedly makes fun of herself, but inside she's often low-key panicking that she's pretty annoying.
One thing that she and Elliot share is that they love to entertain. Like him, if she can make someone laugh then she's having a fantastic day. When it comes to attention, though, she feels a lot better to have things she makes (like drawings or crafts) being the center of it rather than she herself being it, which is where their differences can both feed each other as well as fight with one another. Having attention is awesome, but scary and exhausting! Being in Elliot's body makes this easier on her, though, it is a degree of separation between the attention and herself, so it's easier to handle.
For the most part she's handling being stuck in another person's body pretty well. She likes being in control, but doesn't mind too badly taking a backseat. She may abruptly yank some control to herself without warning to do something without thinking, or make him blurt something she thinks is hilarious, which can startle and frustrate Elliot.
Together
Elliot’s lower arms are what Jen has the easiest time controlling, and it’s the hardest part of him that he can keep control over. Their control over the body is generally pretty fluid, neither one ever in total control or losing total control. It’s disorienting and frustrating, but they’re just going to have to deal with it.
Jen has no damn clue how to play the cello, but she knows how to play the ukulele a little and can try plucking at the instrument. It’s very obvious when she’s the one in control over playing, because it sucks. Elliot, however, is very good at playing, and while she may have easy control over his lower set of arms, for the sake of playing an instrument she is willing to let him take over. She loves to feel him play, which feeds his love for playing. Cellos are awesome.
The two of them have a very hard time separating their emotions from one another and their feelings bleed together very easily. Their negativity will feed off of one another and cycle into a dark place easily. His anger would feed her fear, and her fear would continue to feed his anger, causing them to cycle into an enraged panic. Positivity can feed positivity as well, though! Elliot has a big ego that loves being stroked, and Jen’s standards of ego stroking can be pretty low. If there’s even a small compliment, Jen’s on cloud 9 and Elliot’s helplessly giddy as well. Basically they can be quite an emotional wreck together. Neither of them want to lose control, though, so they do try to keep calm. But also, there's something thrilling and relieving about finally letting loose and unleashing hell.

Hnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnggggg, I love these two already. Such an interesting and fun dynamic from the sounds of it. I love that Jen can control Elliot's lower arms, it's rather clever and very creative. Also these designs are fantastic, the expressions remind me of art style, which is a double plus in my book!

Thank you, I'm having lots of fun trying to figure this out! Also talking about myself in the third person and treating it like a character is WEIRD ahahah xD I can't really take full credit for that arm idea tho, NightLokison joked around about it with me and I ran away with it xD
ohHHH MY GOSH I DIDN'T KNOW THEY HAD A DA!! Sad they haven't been on it in a while 8'( I LOVE their animation, my friend introduced it to me like.... idk maybe a year ago?? Aaaaaaaa thank you so mcuh I've never had my stuff likened to theirs before!! ♥

Thank you!!
I know that feeling honestly, I'm so hesitant to try to join yet here I am doing it! I'm still sticking around the Haunted Library oct, but Otherside looks way too fun to not at least try!

You're welcome!
I know, if only I had a character that I could readily use in such a context! DX
I have too many that need developing so I don't want to make a new one just for the occasion!
Halp!

To be honest, I actually made Elliot up just for this oct! Bonus for me, though, he ended up connecting to a character from the oct I was just beaten out of so it's helping me develop previous ones to do this! Honestly, with an oct like this having a character that's underdeveloped would fit too, and heck it can cause you to develop them just by being forced to play around with them There was another week added to the deadline if you're still considering!

I think I've actually found one that I can use!
Nearly forgot he existed, but now all I need is to give him a new reference page and audition!
Honestly, that's the whole reason I'm into octs now. I've got characters, but they have next to no character, no real substance to their personalities. But that's what tends to carry a good story. Having other people to bounce my oc off of helps too.

Yay! 8D You can do it, I believe in you!! That's pretty much why I'm into them too at this point. At first it was just oh this looks like fun time to make a throwaway character, oops suddenly I'm super attached and now I can't stop drawing them help pffffffffff
It's so fun, but it's really nerve-wracking amount of responsibility, being trusted with someone else's character like that! But oh my gosh is it so satisfying~~~~~

Oog, not sure if I should honestly. I've got a pile-up of things that need finishing, but maybe a new project would offer the old ones some new life? I dunno. I'm not getting any ideas for points my oc could hit and develop to, uuuuuhhhhhhhggggggg...
What do you think?

In the end an oct should be for fun, if you feel like it would be way too much of a workload (especially given the current deadline) then please don't stress yourself out about it too much!

The time limit is probably one of the few things that would get me to do anything about entering.
It's more a lack of motivation to write the story, performing for no audience makes ya feel hollow inside.
Y'know?

Well I mean with how small it is at the moment xD Yeah, it does suck, but in the end you gotta keep going! Which I know is way easier said than done, believe me heh. I went on a long hiatus from this site and basically didn't post much art at all for a few years because of similar reasons. But you gotta keep it up y'know?

Yeah, but I think I'll change the way I've been drawing things.
Make it easier to get the pic down, manga's nice but it takes forever to finish! DX

Oh yeah you wanna balance speed with quality when it comes to draws, it's tough! Cuz you want them to look good, but you also want to get the pages out there at a reasonable pace
