Lets be honest. I dont watch SU. I have seen only random clips but now my gf has showed me some clips of the movie and somehow i got this idea of Steven and Spinel being drawing one of my favorite panels in Dragon Ball Manga and well here we are ;w;Related content

And after reading one of the replies you got below, Iβm going to have to add my point of view on how Steven dealt with the issue in the film.
He did resort to violent yet brief retaliation against Spinel at the start by destabilizing her with theΒ rejuvenator, due to Spinel outclassing Jasper in how dangerous she was to the Crystal Gems.
Yet upon understanding what truly caused Spinel to become so hostile later on in the film, as well as understand that it was change that brought him so far on his journey into heroism, Steven gave her mercy* and kept trying to help her while on the defense from her attacks until she stopped and rethought about her life.
So for me, Iβm satisfied with how the SU film went between Steven and Spinel.
(Just like how Goku tried to give Frieza mercy when the tyrant accidentally cut himself with his own attack, though the difference is that unlike Spinel, Frieza gave Goku no choice but to end him anyway due to his much darker and hopelessly stubborn motivations of genocide upon the Saiyans)

Honestly, this would've been better in the movie. If Steven was actually fighting Spinel FOR ONCE

But then it would take back on his entire character being about peace and talking things out. Every fight he's been in he's never attacked, just defended himself so him punching spinel wouldn't be better.Β Β

Not to mention that in this world not every problem can be solved by being nice and friendly or being peaceful about it. Sometimes you must fight and if push comes to shove, kill. Otherwise not only you will be killed but everyone and everything you love will be killed.

Well, I'm not sure about you but it very apparent from the start of the show that Steven doesn't actually fight but wants to talk things out with the enemies that brought upon him because of his mother.Β
The show at the core is about peace and talking things out, which is sole character, Steven, represents. And if Rebecca just makes Steven actually fight to the point where he kills (shatters) a gem then it would seriously go back on his whole character that he was built up to be.Β
The only actual times he really fights is when he's poofing the corrupted gems so he can bubble them up.Β
The show, while showing actual real life situations like abuse, the main core of it is peace and talking things out and moving on. Every single villain from the start up until now has been redeemed in way because Steven has talked to them.Β Β Β
I think it would be a very bad message for people to show that because this person is bad to them, they should kill them because this character did it in this show. That isn't right. Overall, core message of the show is peace from the start and if you want steven to teach kids to punch or even kill those who are bad then go ahead.Β

Again, not every problem can be solved just by being nice. There are a lot of people in this world who cannot be reasoned with or talked down from doing bad things. Believe me I know. I've come to know many horrific evils in this world, and being nice can't resolve all of them. Rape, murder, child molestation, and abuses of every kind. Sometimes you have to be ruthless and cold hearted in order to deal with people who do such things. Many kids grew up with such things as well. My cousin for example was molested by a relative at age 3. You can't reason with people who do things like that.

Not really missing much about the show. Missed some essential elements with the main antagonists making the rest of the story feel more anti-climatic with its progression.

To put the Diamonds in a way, there like Freeza except destroying planets to expand there empire. And they all get away with the crimes they've done to the solar system only for Steven to "fix everything". This is why i wished that it was with another alien race that the Diamonds wiped out and harvest there technology only for a handful to survive and send there greatest warriors to do what the diamonds did, Kill them all. And it would work with the amount of loopholes that gems would be mangled, similar to what transformers could (and did) do with the only draw back being that it was a good written character that got axed off.

The whole Rose is PD is what really turned me off from the show. Felt like a cop out.

I mean, when they first started mentioning the Diamonds and more progression of the story, there were clear hints of it throughout. A lot of the fandom were just able to make this a theory and theories can either be correct in the long run or be proven false. So, Rose being PD isn't a cop out if it was planned and people were just able to be correct on a theory.Β Β

Even so, imo it would have been better story telling if they were separate entities and that Rose really did straight up kill PD. It would have been a great character development moment.

Hmmm, I wouldn't think so because then the entire point from when his gem got taken out by White Diamond and her wanting PD back only to show us that PD is gone and that Steven will always be Steven and not this other gem would be lost. If Rose and PD were different people then they would just straight up kill Steven instead in the process because then he would be the son of the killer.Β
