Heard of that before. I have the impression that the technique is more commonly used in landscape painting. Never saw an example of using that in a portrait tho 0v0

The white space helps give to the feeling of openness and purity, like nothing is too crowded and I honestly think it adds beauty to the piece.

I suppose. Meanwhile I have to say that the bottom of the canvas looks very crowded in contrast.

That's another reason for leaving the blank space. To help balance out the crowded feeling. I see artists do it all the time and I think it's actually really beautiful.
