lol....The tattoos that came from the era you tried to represent here, had no "pink" in them.

The guy I started with had:

black, red, green ,yellow, blue, brown, orange, and white.

Nobody really had much until Spalding or National started up. And I got lucky and worked for the guy that started National back in 74 or so.

Man, the stories I could pass on to you......lol

Try using Graumbacher red for painting that stuff......

I haven't done any flash for years but when I did, it was the old "spit shading" way.....

lol...I got my first machines from Spalding....Got 2 for $100. even went to see him a few times.

A few years later (1979), I came here to North Carolina to he same town where Spalding used to work. The building was still there but tattooing was outlawed here from 57 to 75 (Spalding had already left).

In between times, I worked for Philadelphia Eddie (the founder of National Supply). Then I worked a while for the guy that taught Eddie back in Brooklyn (new york) in the 50's.....I still keep in touch with Eddie & his one kid (who also tattoos here in Carolina). And I still keep in touch with the son, and the nephew of the guy that taught Eddie.

I'll have to try look for some of that.

And yeah, i am still spit shading all my stuff.

Man, i shudder to think of the things i did when i got those spalding machines. i would never ever encourage people to learn the way i did haha. but what are ya gonna do!?

Thats crazy about eddie...all these people i know about, you actually knew and tattooed with. Its nice to hear!

He called me about 2-3 weeks ago. He said he was on his way to Florida for a little r & r.....I have his home phone # somewhere. Have Lyle Tuttle's home # somewhere too.

Did you go thru my gallery? There's a newspaper article in my scraps from 1977 (I think). It's me as a kid and you can see Eddie's hands. He was working on my back in Philadelphia (where I was from, and his shop was).

We've known each other since about 1974.
