Gentle: Polite, kind, and ready with a smile, she's the kind of person who encourages others with soft words and light touches.

Dedicated: If she promises something, no matter how much she hates it, she will go through with it.

Maternal: Being the mother of one, she tends to act rather motherly to anyone she likes and anyone under her command.

Cold: Once you get on her bad side, she can be surprisingly sarcastic and mocking, borderline cruel.

Impatient: Despite her seemingly perfect personality, she's horribly impatient and hates waiting for others.

Forgiving: Most of the time, simply apologising is enough to earn her forgiveness. You'd better mean it though, or she'll probably punch you in the face.

History:

Melanie grew up in the Yalkell district with parents who were only ever concerned with getting richer. Since the age of five, her parents had already arranged for her to marry one of their richer neighbors, young boy named Reuben Amsel. Melanie often visited the Amsel home to spend time with him, not that she minded. The two were close friends. Reuben's father, a Mienshao, taught them both martial arts. Melanie's parents, both somewhat stiff when it came to what a girl should and should not learn, knew nothing of this as Melanie was careful to keep it a secret from both of them.

When she was twelve, like so many children, she received her injection. For a whole month, she suffered intense pains, often having blackouts that lasted a few hours before she woke up again, only to black out once more some time later. At the end of it, it was finally over and she sat up with a dazed feeling. Her arms felt sore and, when she looked down, she was shocked and terrified to discover that her arms were gone, save for twin stumps growing out her shoulders. In their place, she found out she could summon a pair of purple, clawed hands, reminiscent of those of a Haunter.

When she left the facility, she was surprised to find Reuben waiting for her. The boy had had his DNA merged with that of an Ursaring. Side by side, they went home. Life carried on as normal. Reuben didn't care about her drastic change and when she met with his father, the Mienshao immediately made it compulsory for her to learn how to fight with detached hands.

They married when Melanie was seventeen and Reuben was eighteen. Two years later, Melanie gave birth to their first child, a baby girl they named Thea. A year after that, Reuben left to serve in the military. Left with their child, Melanie brought Thea up with the help of a hired caretaker, and elderly human lady named Isabel. A few months later, Melanie received news of her husband's death. A member of the Stationare Garde, they'd been welcoming the Scouting Legionare in when there was a Colossi attack. Reuben had been one of the casualties.

Melanie mourned her husband's death for a long while before recovering. Then, she made preparations. She arranged for Thea's education, paid Isabel to take care of her daughter, made a few calls, visited her parents... Then, head held high, she enrolled into the military.

Hard work and diligence paid off in the end. Melanie graduated. Though she didn't make the top ten, she got a spot in at the garrison. She remained there for several years until the recent Colossi attack that took down Wall Maria. Soon after the dust had settled, she was promoted to second-in-command.

Reason:

To continue her husband's job.

Since joining, her ambition has evolved somewhat, as she has grown to truly care for those under her command, and even those out of it.

After the fall of Wall Maria, she's somewhat hellbent on making sure Wall Rose and Wall Sina remain standing, for her daughter's safety.
