Description
Got the urge to finally work on a design for this guy, and I'm pretty happy with how he turned out. In my TLK fan story, Duma is the father of Tazama (with Chuki) + Imara, Shabaha, and Kasi (with Kehinde). If you're interested in learning about his story, here's his bio from my TLK character profiles:"A rogue from the Old Lands, Duma was a young male still trying his luck at finding a pride of his own. No rogue lionesses had taken any interest in him, and he had been chased away from every bachelor group he tried to join. Lions in the Old Lands have many superstitions, and one of these is the belief that retaining cub spots into adulthood is a sign of weakness, poor constitution, and a childish personality. It is said that a spotted male is sure to father sickly cubs - if he can father cubs at all. A pride male's entire purpose is to guard the pride, patrol their territory, and to father strong cubs. If he can't do that, then he is considered less than worthless. No lioness wants to be with a male like that, and no bachelor group wants to take on a member that they perceive as dead weight. So Duma spent much of his early adulthood alone, and on the receiving end of countless insults and rejections. Still, he did well enough for himself, and he managed not to go hungry most of the time. He wasn't particularly large or powerful, but he became a successful hunter by being quick, bold, and sharp-eyed. Duma tried to maintain a positive attitude, but he was starting to wonder if he might spend the rest of his life as a rogue. Then came the day when he passed near the border of the Pride Lands and came upon three young lionesses. To Duma's surprise, they showed immediate interest in him, and soon broached the idea of starting a pride together. Duma was beyond thrilled, and over the next few days, each lioness took turns laying down with him. Finally, things seemed to be looking up for Duma. The lionesses were strong and clever, and if their attempts to conceive proved successful, then the four of them would soon be on their way to a exceptional pride. Duma couldn’t believe his good luck, and told himself that he would be the best pride male there ever was. He would guard the pride well, protect them from danger no matter the cost, and be a loving father to his future cubs. He fell asleep on that last night thinking about his happy future ... and never woke up again. Unfortunately for Duma, things were not as they appeared. The three lionesses - Chuki, Kehinde, and Amne - had been sent by Zira to conceive the chosen cub foretold (supposedly) by the spirit of Scar. They took one look at Duma’s green eyes and reddish-brown coat, and believed he might just father a cub that had some resemblance to Scar. However, the three of them had been given strict orders from Zira: whatever male they chose could not survive the encounter. This cub must be Scar's heir, and Scar's alone. No other father could be around to muddy the waters. So while Duma slept, Kehinde slit his throat, letting him bleed out onto the dirt. Chuki and Kehinde both became pregnant from this encounter, but Amne unfortunately did not. Chuki later gave birth to a cub she called Tazama, and Kehinde had three cubs named Imara, Shabaha, and Kasi. All of them were female and none bore any resemblance to Scar, but at least they would make useful soldiers for Zira's future army. In the meantime, Amne was formulating a plan. She may have failed to conceive a cub to present to Zira, but she knew just where she could find one. For that, she would have to pay a visit to her sister, Tahiya ."
