Description
You saved your little sister’s life, Kopa. Doesn’t that count for something?” Mheetu said, trotting desperately after the sulking teen.Kopa turned his fierce grey-blue eyes on Mheetu, the eyes that reminded the older lion so much of his beloved older sister, Nala. “Of course it counts for something,” Kopa spat, “Kiara is safe. She will be queen, as fierce as my mother, as fair as my father.”
“But you are the firstborn,” Mheetu snarled, thrusting himself into his nephew’s face, “and you know the Law of the Pridelands states that you are to be king, so long as you walk this earth.”
Kopa narrowed his eyes. “I don’t care.” He turned his back pointedly on Mheetu, swishing his tufted tail through the air as he stalked across the brittle savanna grass.
“You don’t care about the laws your ancestors laid down? The Great Kings…”
Kopa whirled on his uncle, fangs bared. “How dare you lecture me! You are a rouge, Uncle Mheetu, but you are nothing more! You have no right to speak to me about the Great Kings.”
Mheetu realized that he must have looked wounded, because Kopa instantly hung his head, an apologetic look in his troubled eyes. “I’m sorry,” he choked, casting a longing look down at his paws, “I didn’t…”
He raised his head once more, meeting Mheetu’s gaze with as much conviction as a liar can manage. “I am not a prince, nor a king. The Pridelands deserve far better than me.”
Mheetu was silent, unsure of how to soothe the nephew that had become like a son to him the day he’d found him half-dead in the Elephant Graveyard.
“Come on,” Kopa said, beckoning Mheetu forward with a curt nod of his head, “let’s go home.”
Some Kopa fan art
This picture was originally going to feature a character I adopted from KaiserTiger but since the design didn’t fit well with the teen look of this character, I decided to turn it into Kopa.
The Lion King and its characters belong to Disney
The story and art belong to me, so do not steal, trace, copy, reference, or otherwise redistribute in any way.
