alright! i've had a couple of people ask me how, and then said i should do a tutorial, so here it is. It might be confusing, cause i stink at showing people things, but...i did it
and i'm proud of it ^.^

i have a few questions- once you set up the copy layer and hte in-between-y layer, which one do you color on? also, i CANNOT for the LIFE of my to make the gradient thingy transparent. I click onthe downy arrow and choose the transparent, but then i click on it, and the little gradient box is solid!

the in between layer is the one you color on, but make sure your copy is multiply.

yesh, a decent tutorial. thank you very much ^_^. but, there is one problem...i can't do hair like you X.x. what program is it that you are using [doesn't use comp for coloring]

I don't mind at all!
Well... I color hair with the base color on a layer.
Than, on a new layer, I draw ligher lines with the brush tool as highlights. I 'smudge' these lines and then, selectin the hair area, I apply the pixelate> fragmet filter.
Ending, I change the highliths layer properties (usually I change them from Normal to Screen or Linear Dodge).
But again, I want to try your way too

ah! i see...i may have to try that! the one thing bad about me is i'm horrid with change, and ive just figured out this technique T.T it'll probably be ages before i figure out how to do it differently
