Description
-- So, here's how I do a shadow. I just recently figured it out, I've been trying to figure it out FOREVER, and now that I have, it's really simple and easy. It doesn't even take like 5 minutes. Sorry about my sloppy cutting/ mane smudging. I was to lazy.-- I use GIMP 2.6, so some stuff might be different. Like I believe to do a dropshadow on older versions you have to go to script-fu and follow that... I update my version of GIMP every now and then. So I have the latest.
Any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
Hope it's easy enough to understand. :]

When i click the layer... there is no "filters" option? I have gimp 2.6...
?

xxSanuk In reply to Amadigo [2011-12-04 16:55:58 +0000 UTC]
The filters option won't appear when you click the layer, you are just clicking the layer to make sure that when you are adding your drop shadow, it goes specifically to your horse, and not the picture as a whole.
The 'filter' option is on the same line where 'Files' and 'Tools' are (which is above the picture in the tool bar area)

Try flipping the layer vertically (upside down) and playing around with it from that. If it doesn't work, note me or comment back and I'll try to work something out!

Right click your shadow layer in the actual picture, go to Image > transform > flip vertically !

OK it worked for me, but I need the shadow to me on the other side! How do I do that?

Sorry it has taken me a long time to respond, I've been busy with school things these past few weeks!
- I'd simply flip the layer upside down (or vertically) and it should work out, so that it's the opposite. And then just stretch it and size it to fit! hope that works, if not, note me and I'll work on finding out a way!

It's not working for me for some reason? When I try to scale the srop shaddow, I select the drop shadow layer, click the layer and the other layer pops back up on top and it won't let me work with the drop shadow layer?
Any ideas
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
xxSanuk In reply to EquineArtifex [2011-03-27 15:50:12 +0000 UTC]
So you are selecting the layer in the layer box, and THEN clicking the shadow behind the horse? Make sure you have the Scale tool selected when you do it, before you select the Drop Shadow layer in the box, because that's what makes the shadow go on top of the horse. Hope that helps :3

No, it's still not working, I tried the order of scale>layer.click and the first layer just keeps popping back up, I'm still trying but I have no idea what's going on!

Nice tutorial, especially for your first. ^-^ Pretty easy to understand, and all the steps are clarified so even people new to GIMP could probably figure it out quickly (not clarifying on certain things is something that really, really annoys me in tutorials).
