Some dude wanted to create satyr-like creature, so he kinda fused a whole bunch of monstrosities that had a whole bunch of weird characteristics. He ended up with creatures with mouth-like limbs, which he thought was so cool, that he'd repeat the same process he used to make that one.
A lot of times, he'd end up breeding the creatures instead of making new ones, so they where kinda sickly and stuff because of the lack of genetic diversity.
One day, the government in that area caught on to what he was doing and took the creatures into their custody.
5,000-8,000 of these creatures were rounded up into a warehouse until the government got around to killing them(bc are they really going to let those ugly things roam around and freak people out? That's a liability.) They eventually escaped the warehouse and ran out to live in the forest with all the other obscure creatures dumped in the forest.
A lot of them were near death, but soon they ran into a small village of actual satyrs who were willing to take them in and everything.
They lived with the saytrs and other magic creatures and eventually had offspring with them.
Can't say they actually lived happily ever after because they have had fights with the government and stuff and they ended up being pushed farther up the mountains and to the nearby valley in attempt to keep them isolated with humans.
There are human scientist living in these villages and raising their kids there to see whether keeping minimal contact with humans is such a big deal.
