both male and female elk have horns i think..

Generally the male of the species are more decorated. Peacocks are colourful where peahen are mostly brown, all horned animals will have larger horns on the male.
I grew up with Animal Planet, heh.

Once, when I was young, I went to a nature preserve near my home called, Lone Elk Park. It is full of roaming elk, bison, and other animals.
My cousin and I went to go gather fire wood and we were in the woods and my cousin grabbed the antlers of a huge sleeping elk stag laying in the brush because he thought it was wood.. It rose to its feet and and towered over us. It stared at us for a second and ran off. Needless to say it scared the living daylights out of us.
