Description I spelt the title wrong last time!

Okie so anyways, I figured I'd finally put it up. But since I had reaaaaally bad slides of it all, and no scans or pics whatsoever (and I don't feel like ever opening the frame again ), the only version of it I have is this one. A really horrid scan. And so it gets dumped in the scraps even though I was incredibly proud of it.

I really felt like showing it to you guys! After all I've yapped about it all last year!

Medium: Gouache on wasli
Time: 4 months?

Em the title - ALCHIMIA - Ars Laborifa Convertens Humiditate Ignea Metalla In - is a latin word for alchemy, which kind of translates out to the laborious art of converting igneous humidity of metals to mercury.

So anyways, it's the story of meh two alchemists, and within the story or actually the painting is the alchemical formula for the philosopher's stone (which I'm sure I've gotten wrong somewhere.. I really could not have interpreted the texts so properly.. *ahem* )

I think I've basically told the story in the sketch, but briefly, for the philosopher's stone is basically to take the base metals full of impurities and refine it. Put Sulphur (body/male/animus/Sol) together with Mercury (spirit/female/anima/Luna) and the proud mercury shall kill sulphur, but shall be poisoned herself. When both the two are dead, comes the stage of nothingness and in that, sulphur, spotting an opportunity will finally grab onto mercury and the two shall be finally joined in the perfect union as the stone. (God.... I've reaaaaly simplified this! XD Would have been shot in my jury if I had told it like this!) Erm.... the four stages are Nigredo (Death), Albedo (Nothingness), Citrine (Rejuvenation) and Rubedo (Rebirth). Can you see them?

And so goes this story, When Aimon and Izul led the others off to get the fifth elemental key, Quintessence. Ofcourse, Lularum all along planned to make the stone herself, always trying to prove herself more capable than Luc. But as the numbers of the party dwindled, and the others were thought dead, only Lul and Luc made it to Sol Estor. There, finally, the spell too apparently failed, and Lularum refusing to accept failure, jumped into the fires and tried to grab what looked like the Philosopher's stone to her. She only ended up pulling only Luc and herself to their deaths. But when they woke up, she kind of realized they were not dead (or at least first thought she was in afterlife. XD Much to her disappointment she was proved wrong by Luc) and infact she herself was the Philosopher's Stone reborn with Luc.

Did that make sense? XD Aside from alchemical terms, in the story, the philosopher's stone for the two was the ultimate bonding, something that only few summoners and guardians ever achieved.

Sorry it looks so, so horrid and absolutely no details are visible. (I don't think many will see this here, neh?)

This is awesome! I love the short version and i was laughing when you said if you had told that version to the jurers! HAHAHA! But yes, this is what its all about, story lines, illustrations explaining an indepth story. No one does this sort of work. After Merryia's batch, no one paints anything close to this kind of sequential story telling method. Anyways, as i said, your work is my only inspiration in miniature, hats of to you. Exam problem will start in a week, although it should have started last wednesday. Ill keep you updated! Harigato ozaimas

regardless of how bad the scan is, the work itself is awesome and should be a proper deviation!

...why do you put this in your scraps D:

Actually I've seen this months ago when I first watched you and I guess my memory fails and I thought I've commented on this

what's this for by the way? Assignment?

I bet this looks wonderful in reality. you spent... 4 months for this? well it is very detailed... how pretty

I see a small bird in the middle parts. Is that the four
stages of death you were referring to?

Yakra In reply to AceRacer [2007-09-19 10:29:17 +0000 UTC]

Yip, the birds represent the four stages, all except the eagle and the vulture.

The Eagle refers to the female, the spirit, the anima (or in this case - Lul). The poisoned raven signals the starts of nigredo. The swan - albedo. And finally the phoenix is for rubedo. And as for the vulture, its often used as a symbol for the philosopher's stone or representation of aaaalll the four stages - black, white, yellow and red.

oh wow, this is unbelievable. ;___; you must have worked on that for years. god, this is too much for my brains. XD You put so much thought in all this! And though blurry, there's sooo much detail _o_ I can't take it.
Luna looks great! and a lot more healthy than my moon lady. ^^ Nice! And yay for Ignir, although I can't see him clearly, I already know he's probably gorgeous. >3

He he... yes Luna's a lot more healthier than Adoni. God knows what I really wanted when I first came up with Ignir (he was supposed to be like those icky heros on old fantasy book covers XD).

*le gasp* Its in ths scraps! Say it aint so! Well, agreed, the bluriness totally ate the details *does the 'seen it in real life' dance again*. But stiiill, isn't there any other way you could get a better quality image?.. and where's the border? 0_0 Don't digicam's help? Everyone must see the true glory!

Yakra In reply to merriya [2006-03-09 10:09:08 +0000 UTC]

The border got decimated in the Albdo stage thanks to Sir W's amazing photography... >.> Soooo it got cut out.

It's like a totally half-chopped up version of the original, neh?

Wish I had a digicam! Actually, photographing anything that's behind glass/acrylic always eats up the detials anyways sooooo.... me thinks this is doomed to stay like so for quite some while.

OMG! How sucky of sir W X(. You could borrow a digicam from someone? Shireen has a really cool one XD. If I hadn't seen the original painting I would have been very impressed with this scan as well. So I'm hoping you eventually put up a better version. Aand, if you plan on keeping it in a portfolio, you don't plan on carrying the original around do you XD.

*shakes head* Ya know, I agree with everybody else. You really really REALLY need to resubmit this as a regular deviation. You spent so much time and effort on it, this piece deserves every bit of attention it can get. And the scan isn't bad at all. I mean...it might be a little blury, but even with this it's not hard to pick out the details. Really, honestly and seriously. This is your awesome project and I'm sure even your watchers who don't pay attention to scraps would love to see it. ^_^

And yeah....I loved the sketch, but I love it all the more in color! This is truly a masterpiece! I love the color changes between the scenes, even with the contrasts it still seems to flow together so smoothly. All the action moments really seem to come to life...
It's like one of those pictures you can honestly stare at for hours because there's so much in it...and well....it's so beautiful, it's kinda fun to just stare for a while. ^__^;

I don't know.... the scan is actually REAAAAALLY bad. Like really bad. You can't see the details one bit and meh teacher (welp, not exactly my teacher, but still) who took the slides decided to cut out the border on some pics. >.> Sooo anyways, that bit is kind of cut out, some of the bottom parts of the pucs aren't there too, and I've done a lazy job of piecing it together! No showing in open public!

But thanks. ^.^ I'm really, really glad you liked it that much! (and for the fave!) I was actually kind of afraid as I started painting it that it maight look like patch, patch, patch.

Bah....it's really not bad at all. I can see more than enough details to know I love it...
but oh well...if you really must hide it... T__T

Lol...if you do ever get a better scan, make sure you make it a deviation ^^

What the hell is this doing in Scraps? D: it's awesome, you should've put it in your real gallery! ;-;
the whole pic looks even more gorgeous than in color, I wish I could see this for real

ooh, Luc is substituting Veniti? *is reminded of that Creation - Veniti pic* the puddle at Aquina's feet is a great touch! xD
do the anima/corpus/spiritus actually relate to Aquina&Tir/Sol&Ignir/Veniti&Luc&Luna ? it looks a bit like it, kinda also, everyone Except for Sol and Luna seem to have a little triangular symbol on their clothing, is that representive of the elements?
But Sol and Luna are also in the Windows of that Temple at the end, I just wonder who that in the middle Window is?

the inside of the house is just beautiful! I want my walls painted like this! Overall, the whole pic is colored beautifully, everything looks so warm and colorful without being too fancy.
I also like how the stages are somehow colored like the mineral/color/whatever they correspond to? Like Nigero is black, Albedo white, Citrine yellow and Rubedo red? that's amazing, I love stuff like that.

Lul was disappointed about not being dead? crazy? XD

Yakra In reply to ScatterbrainFox [2006-03-07 10:10:36 +0000 UTC]

The scan is sooooo bad I won't ever show it outside the scraps! >.<

Hem... yip Veniti does look a lot like Luc (erm... even more so in this pic! ). I actually came up with Veniti while I was thinking what would Luc look like a god. XD And sooo... tada! But there's absolutely no relation between the two, aside from the name (Luc Veniti), and their elements.

Heh heh... after I actually made the puddle at Aquina's feet I realized how she's the only one who's dripping! XD The anima/corpus/spiritus do relate to the four elements but, no, they're not in pairs. The four are just components which are reliant on each other - fire turns wind to water which then descends into the earth and there warmed by fire rises up again as wind. The three come from within, the body (or Luc) and the mind (Lul) are missing the final link of the mind, which is only possible by combining the circle of the 4 and the opposing natures of the 2. Yep, all the triangles show the elements. ^.^

(random triangle blab: the six sided star is the symbol of the philosopher's stone. Fire points up, water points down. Combine them both and take away fire, you get earth. Combine them both and take away water, you get fire. God knows where I read this... )

Luna and Sol till the end represent the anima and the animus, or the opposing natures of Lularum and Luc. Aside from that the 'Genma' Aimon basically referred to was the tower of Quintessence. So they had to go there for the stone. The girl in the middle then is Quintessence, or the philosopher's stone, which is what she actually is.

Lul kind of thought if she was dead and no one was torturing her, then she made it to heaven. (she was also happy to have Luc there too, not that she would ever tell him that! XD) Unfortunately, she was quite wrong.
