Description New story~!

*is the one that gets very easily distracted!*

(Airship stories? What be that?! X'D)

Ahem... anyways, quite a while back, I got a bit bored working upon that damned airship story. So boring it was that it kept sending me off too sleep! So! To counter that, I started doodling this for fun, after having found a very nice Dragon Quest cd in me mail.

And so! A new story (a very illegibile one? ) gets inflicted upon ye all?

Medium: Gouache on wasli (and a sheet music reference? :'D)

Warning! Lots of babbling ahead!

About the story: It's basically based off the idea I prattled on about in the description of this piece. In this little world, there be a group of priests of the church of Harmonie known as Singer Priests. Unlike normal people, when they sing, they can sing in the voices of instruments (if they're good, one person can be a whole orchestra~ ). And unlike normal songs, these songs have the power to make illusions, heal, create, or destroy. So! In this particular story Sir Luc there (the white haired mister) was one such priest until he abandoned all his holy duties and such stuff to go tinker with unholy machines. His forte was to create illusions. And he was very good in it too! Created visions so strong that it trapped others in them (and could possibly even kill them) until his song finally finished.

And so.... that's it. The whole story in these pages. Luc sings a song and doesn't pay attention to how his tootling forms his desires and... traps his fellow mechanic~

*gets given awards for being an epic story teller~!*

What Luc is singing: I be a Dragon Quest/Koichi Sugiyama nerd! (So is Luc! XD) And so, this be the piece: Into the Legend.

More pages ahead? I'll add links as soon as I upload!

Oh yes! I'd love it if those who actually manage/have patience to look at them all, if ye all could tell me after reading whether it all made sense or not? What do ye all think happened?

Well, at least this song seems to work for me now. xD
I think this is actually the first time I notice that it's actually gouache you're using and not watercolor!

You're gonna publish these right? So I can have my own copy, right? RIGHT?!

One part of me wants to.... :'D

But the other part of me is declaring I would be jumping and trampling upon Koichi Sugiyama's copyrights if I did a thing like that? Erp...

So I probably won't part with the original or make copies.... :'D

If it was an image, I think this would qualify under "fair use." You are allowed to use other people's stuff to a certain extent without violating law. There are people here in Japan who actually hand-make books to sell. Sometimes they're just stapled photocopies, but I have one that's like, 5 x 5 cm or so and they just printed a bunch of pics real small on a strip of paper and folded it up. Glued on some cardboard, colored paper for a cover.

Ooooh... interesting! The way you're describing it, it almost sounds like some odd rough mixed form of that Chinese bookbinding type, the one which I think they call concertina?

I'm having real headaches about how I'll bind this damned thing though! :'D

Concertina is a type of accordion, so yeah, that'd make sense.

If you can, print 2 pages side by side on a longer sheet of paper, fold it in half so all you see are the 2 printed sides then what you do with the rest is up to you? Some staple if there aren't many pages...

Luc's a proper orchestra, he is! XD I'll be bothering and boring ye with more of these in the coming months! So I'm glad you like it so far~ :'D

I looove your comics I was very happy to see these pages in my message center!I think it illustrates what you mentioned about Lul getting trapped in Luc's illusions very well... I've just looked at them once, and haven't had my breakfast yet, so if there's some symbolism etc, I might be able to address that later XD. But I enjoyed them a lot as they are! A very, very nice visual trip XD... Okay, using weird phrases, better go have breakfast (as if that will fix the problem :/)

I was half afraid that everyone would have ' D: *she's gone mad!*' expressions on their faces once they noticed I'd spammed their inboxes so much.... X'D Thank ye for actually liking these!

Ur hur hur.... there's not much symbolism anywhere. X'D So lack of breakfast isn't hindering ye anywhere! Most certainly, nothing much is happening in these first few pages~ I'm glad ye still enjoyed looking at them though!

I did think you'd gone mad actually... but a good sort of madness!!

It would be so awesome if panels/drawings of this comic could be used for a music video for the track you've linked @_@. No animation as such, just lots of zooming and panning ... Uh... yeah... Why must I wait till lunchtime to have my breakfast -_-

Yakra In reply to merriya [2009-07-12 20:34:48 +0000 UTC]

Music videos~~~!!!!! :'D Oh mwee! I've been dreaming of those since the beginning, with my imagination running from what you've suggested to proper animated versions to even (after touching Eden of the East [X'D]), stop motion stuffs...

Erm... but then I give me wayward brain a kick to get it back in the right direction! >__< One's dreamy brain should know one's limits! X'D

Eden of the East? I saw only the first episode,I'm so lazy these days... I don't even have the energy to watch anime XD...

It's amazing what one can do with non animated images even, knowing how to use the right software... I'm trying to figure out Adobe After Effects these days, so I'm very tempted to do such stuff...(just NOT with my own sucky stuff)

Yakra In reply to merriya [2009-07-13 17:20:07 +0000 UTC]

You can't possibly be worse than me! X'D I hardly ever watch anything! :'DDD Reading preference please!

But... I actually kept watching after the first episode of this (surprisingly, considering how the first was not so gripping...? ). And I'm glad I did! Methinks I actually liked the series enough to even consider it as good as Last Exile? And I LOVED that~! :'D

Er... totally pointless rambling aside, the ending credits thing was pretty... @___@ White~!

I saw Adobe After Effects on me cd...! ...And then that's all I did with it. X'D I've stuffed me computer with so much rubbish that... any extra Adobe thingy makes it scream in anguish~ X'D (Totally pointless to the skills of animating piccies - I did get the knowledge of usng Adobe Premier Pro forcibly dumped upon me head. Yay~! One more programme that I'll forget how to use with due time?)

merriya In reply to Yakra [2009-07-14 09:56:59 +0000 UTC]

It seemed interesting, but I didn't even finish watching the first episode I think? Need to give it another shot...

After Effects is one heavy software! And it looks like it will take a lifetime to learn (so much for encouraging you to try it out!), there's so much stuff, I have no choice since it's my only hope for getting a job these days *and just watching one tutorial every other month is not helping *

But wow, the stuff people do with it! @.@

I only knew the basics of Premier, I don't think it's an easy software to forget unlike *gasp* 3Ds Max (forgot it in a month! 4 month long classes down the drain!)
