Description
Boring thing... Short-haired DL, or somesuch.I'm so tired these days.. I come home and fall asleep, then struggle to get homework done until 12:00 or 1:00 am.
Even on weekends. It's terrible.. Too tired to do more than sketch and push pixels around with my tablet.

Cool, I love the orangy colours on this.
*points at comment* Gosh, that sounds really bad. I'm usually tired, but not as tired as you must feel. You should try to organize your time...I'd really like to see more art.

heh i really like it. even though as you said those are supposed to be whiskers, it seems like maeve's idea of the mushroom like snot thing that she drew all over my picture with the dragonflies- the one i did at sarah's house. -just a thought

Just wanted to say that I like it, Yama. There's this way you use gold colours that really get to me.
Maybe it is just "nothing more than a sketch", but darn it, it looks good. Everyone always thinks artistic talent can only be seen in these huge GLORIOUS pictures with 5 or 6 characters in dynamic poses, interarting with this background that seems to have as much life as any hero or villain. That the artists had to have spent AT LEAST 72 hours working on the way someone's sleeve creates a patch of shadow that further enhances the lonely feel of a character and whatnot... but I say " phooey" to all that. Sure, in your DA site you have pieces that rock my world (and not just mine, you can be sure of that), incredible works of art that leave me with my jaw hanging, and try as I might to comment, the sheer grandeur of your art just doesn't let me type in the words. BUT as much as those masterpieces testify to the heighs of which you are capable of reaching, I don't think you should underestimate your quick sketches.
I have a thing for sketches and lonely character "doodles", because of what they show. Let me explain by comparing it to a Physical Education class. If you gave everyone enough time, a high ammount of people would swim an entire mile, right? But now picture a swimmer who, busy with other things, nevertheless wants to take a quick dip into the pool. While you KNOW she's capable of swimming the English Channel, you don't expect her to do so now, when it's just a quick sprint. But, despite the short ammount of distance she swims, the style and mastery of a true swimmer would still be there. Sure, it was just 300 feet, but what a backstroke!! Am I making any sense? What I'm trying to say is that sure, it was a quick little thing, but your talent is still deeply ingrained into every pixel.
For example, take DL's face. It's well proportioned, with this feline grace hinting in his masculine features. The muzzle is very typical of your style (kinda hard to explain, but that muzzle is so Yamaneko), with a catty nose and just the slightest hint of fur on the chin, to show off he's all fluffy. His eyes are handsome, slitted somewhat in a relaxed but deep in thought mood, though I can see a small hint of sadness in those gold orbs. His hair shows off DL's youth, with this wild but not unkept style, cut short at the back for a more serious look, balancing the energy of a young one with some degree of attained maturity. The ears are just cute, laid back, showing no sign of alerness, though perhaps they add to the subtle feel of melancholy that can be seen in his gaze. You might find this odd, but I love how you drew his jawline. It's round, to give the sensation of fluffyness, but still chiseled enough to make him look masculine. The stripes on both the cheeks and the ears decorate him in a very nice way, adding this artistic feralness to him. Oh, and the neck is pretty nice too.
Clothing suits him, shirt and jacket, with a dogtag hanging from his neck, it's this mixture of a rebeliousness that's held back in some way by a militaristic discipline. The folds give the jacket depth, just the right ammount to show off it's clothing that folds and crumples, but not enough to make it seem he hasn't ironed it in years.
Extra admiration for his hands, Yama. I don't know, but there's something about them that I really like. Maybe it's the way they touch each other, it makes me think of him either ridgeting with his hands, or keeping them close in this subtle protective stance.
Colouring and shading are superb... white with just a strip of colour in the background, gold washing over everything else. It's like a black and white picture, but instead of the gloomy dark, you opted for a warm gold instead. I love the monochrome feel to it, it just looks so... cool.
One question, though. Those lines in front of his nose... are they whiskers, or is he snorting?

This my dear is what i like to call a eureka sketch... yout to bored and tired to sketch but the paper suddenly sucks you in and there you have it!! Nice job i love the orange hue... but the tired feeling does come through in the expression on this character in this sketch!! Love the detail!!
