A wizard, a sorceress, a dragon disciple and a magus?
That is one magic-intensive party!

Was the caster on the left supposed to look like Sean Bean? He bears a striking resemblance.
Fantastic composition!Β

IGNORE ME. this is just a rant.
This is the problem with fantasy today. EVERYONE is a mage.
Everyone is mary sue/marty stu.
what happened to the fantasy worlds where the world is old, dotted with ruins,
and only one out of ten thousand (or even, one in a million) has only just discoveredΒ
the spark of magic.
Nowadays, you can't even swing a cat without hitting a spellcaster.

Cause magic be dope my guy. Also magic, in the sense of roleplaying games, gives a good excuse for totally posthuman abilities. Why can the fighter heal his allies by catching his breath and being very charismatic? I dunno, magic 'er somethin'. It's less about wanting to be a Mary-sue and more about ease. Furthermore, wouldn't a massive influx of mages have the adverse effect as there being few? If there's two total those are way more "special snowflake" than if there are 2 million, just my two cents though.

Do you have an example of this type of fantasy you're talking about?

The Black Company chronicles by Glen Cook is a good example. There are only a small handful of casters in the whole world setting.

The biggest examples that come to my mind are Lord of the Rings (there are literally only five wizards in the whole world, and two are missing) and Game of Thrones (magic is only just starting to return to the world).
Kind of hard to hold Pathfinder (which is first and foremost a role-playing game) to those standards though.

Thing is, in that case wizard is used to refer specifically to those 5. There were an unknown amount of human and elvish magic users as well as dwarves with their own form of magic such as was used for the door the fellowship enter into Moria.

Still, that magic was subtle. They certainly weren't running around casting 'fireball' and 'magic missile'.

Looks amazing, and great work with the fire.
I'm seeing possible signs of wizard, shifter, summoner, and magus classes, but I may be wrong about that

The third one looks more Dragon Disciple than Summoner to me, but who knows.
