I'm participating in *Maeix2 'sGreen Grass Event , which has a treasure hunt/trail ride and a freestyle event. This is an entry for the treasure hunt.

Horse on the left: KhS Dhesperado
Rider: Sam Shen
Breed: Akhal Teke
Class: Treasure Trail

Horse on the right: KhS El Khalim
Rider: Dante Ashfield
Breed: Akhal Teke
Class: Treasure Trail

"Just look at that sunset..."

Sam followed Dante's gaze to the orange sky framed through the mountain ridge up ahead, looking unimpressed. "Yeah, I guess it's pretty nice."

Dante rolled his eyes. "Some people have no sense of beauty," he stage-whispered to Khalim. The stallion flicked an ear back towards him and kept walking.

"Hey, I heard that," Sam complained jokingly as they topped the ridge. As she said it, her eyes widened and she pulled Dhesperado to a halt. "Damn," she said in a hushed voice. "That's amazing."

Dante quirked an eyebrow at her, and she pointed to the left of the trail.

It was the griffin's nest they had been searching for, a huge mound of sticks, branches, moss, and whatever else the griffins had found to line their nests with. There were no eggs in the nest yet, and the pair were nowhere to be seen — presumably off hunting.

And there on the far side of the nest, as promised, was a small pile of griffin statues cast in bright gold. Their task was to retrieve one figurine each — a task which seemed almost too easy with the adult griffins gone.

It was the work of a moment to dismount, scoop up a figurine, and tuck it into the pouches behind their saddles. But as they were riding away, a shriek like an eagle's cry split the air, and a shadow appeared overhead.

The griffins were back!

The following is essentially copy-pasted from the photographer who generously provided the stock I used as a reference:

This photo was taken at a place called Rainhill Equine Facility.

Rainhill Equine Facility is a non-profit, forever home for blind, abandoned, sickened, and unwanted horses. Every horse that is brought to Rainhill has found his or her permanent home; they will never be rehomed for any reason. Rainhill is the last and final hope for most all of the horses there; many had no one that cared about them anymore, or even worse, were abused. Rainhills main focus is saving blind horses.

But now, living at Rainhill EVERY horse gets the attention he or she deserves. At Rainhill, they can have a real home, and love. So many horses have come so far from were they were left.

I urge you to visit Rainhill's website. They desparately need funding and donations; everything they have goes to the the 54+ horses they take care of!

Thanks. I wanted an excuse to draw a griffin, and this seemed as good a reason as any.

Luckily they're both normally flat racers, so they've got some speed on their side at least...they could probably get far enough away that the griffins lose interest.

I love griffins, so go you

Yes, and with the sun setting like that, darkness makes for good cover.

Best of luck

Hehe, thanks. I think a lot of the 'epic' factor is due to the composition and lighting.
