What do you mean poor drawing? It is a very mind-blowing, breathtaking, beautiful and dramatic! Shadow's pose and expression are very nostalgic and so serious!
I really love the dark atmosphere in this, as well as the colouring, the shadings and highlights, the effects with the smoke and the fire, the tiny details and the background! 100% Perfect, accurate and professional! I really want to applaud you for your very hard work!

dislike: i'm pretty sure this maybe jsut your style of some thing but usually the anatomy of sonic character is that the head should be bigger than the body(the torsol/chestandhip together area) but i this really reminds me of another great artist who was drawing the anatomy similar to you. but i'm jsut saying ifyou want to be more like the original body should be smaller and the hands and feet should be alittle bigger.
as for the lighting~ it values are great but the direction of the light is alittle off, sense the light is in the back the should be lightest from the back and the darkest value should be in the front. but i'm guessing that there some light coming from the front in the right. but yeah jsut keep this in mind though if your planning to do somethiing big.

About the body of SONIC~Your right, but I prefere the longer one~
Light is one of my biggest problem, maybe I didn't tell the background well, the flame in the middle is in front of SHadow, and I think another source of light is the hand. I cannot control it very well, I need to work hard>3<~
