Description
Have you started wonder what's going on in the painting already?Well, I don't normally like to explain my paintings, but for this one I guess I kinda have to...XD
The inspiration comes from a Chinese phrase, which is originally from Buddhism - "三千烦恼丝"/"叁仟煩惱絲" - which meaning "three thousand threads of trouble", refering to hair. That's why monks cut off their hair, because they need to seperate themselves from the troubles they have in the human society (excuse me if there's any mistake but that's how I got it anyway.)
I thought, where does trouble come from? It actually doesn't come from anywhere else other than our own mind. If we could cut it off, it could just be gone - but it's ourselves who decide to keep them in, we made a nest for them because there's something related to the trouble that we simply can't give up.
Just like her hair, it's keeping all the trouble, they scream at her head all the time, but she just can't give up her hair - even though it troubled her so much that her hair have all turned white.
No pain no gain I guess.
Anyway, hope you enjoy the painting!

Your work is an incredible hybrid between the eccentricity of Dali and the vivid realism of Max Ernst. It is pure and untainted. It's simplicity is matched by it's vivacity. The image screams quietly, diligently.
I could try to nit pick about addition of elements or altering a feature or shade but what justice would that do to your fine work.
It could be a Masterpiece of Modern Surrealist Art echoing part of a new Renaissance. That was the strength of the art form. It's ability to push our boundaries of comprehension thus leaving an indelible mark in the viewer/observer.
The ability to speak without using words or symbols like the image above. How can a viewer not feel the emotions of your subject. Her eyes reveal only pain and loss. You've done a brilliant job in transmitting her emotions and feeling of angst.
You are a talent with gifts that may yet awe the world. Bravo!.

wow, thank you so much for such a wonderful critique! I really appreciate everything you said. My teacher used to tell me that my work was only pretty, and so I tried hard to put thoughts into my work and bring some ugliness/depth.
I'm so honoured to have my work compared to these two masters Dali and Max!! They are both incredible artists and I look up to them. Again thank you so much and I will try to create more paintings with thoughts!

I'm proud to say that I knew that saying and I got everything about trouble except for the birds. YAY.
this is so beautiful. I love your painting style and even the way the creepy baby birds are painted. there's a lot of psychology when it comes to portrayals head and it's really awesome to see you use it so effectively, with cultural connotations too. <3

mmm i don't, if you say so it must be true. i just can't manage to get used to it.. to many panels i need and so little space in the screen.. plus i don't like (hate it) the zoom tool and eyedroper. i'm used to PSP..

yangtianli In reply to lauraperalta [2012-11-08 12:15:12 +0000 UTC]
haha, you will eventually get used to it, you don't need to actually master all the panel, just a couple of them you use really frequently.
