Description Have you started wonder what's going on in the painting already?

Well, I don't normally like to explain my paintings, but for this one I guess I kinda have to...XD

The inspiration comes from a Chinese phrase, which is originally from Buddhism - "三千烦恼丝"/"叁仟煩惱絲" - which meaning "three thousand threads of trouble", refering to hair. That's why monks cut off their hair, because they need to seperate themselves from the troubles they have in the human society (excuse me if there's any mistake but that's how I got it anyway.)

I thought, where does trouble come from? It actually doesn't come from anywhere else other than our own mind. If we could cut it off, it could just be gone - but it's ourselves who decide to keep them in, we made a nest for them because there's something related to the trouble that we simply can't give up.

Just like her hair, it's keeping all the trouble, they scream at her head all the time, but she just can't give up her hair - even though it troubled her so much that her hair have all turned white.

No pain no gain I guess. Oh and baby birds are SO CREEPY that I thought they are perfect acting as "trouble" and baby themselves too....XD what's more troublesome than a baby? seriously? XD

Anyway, hope you enjoy the painting!

This picture is beautiful. Really beautiful. And somewhat disturbing as well, but I think that's just 'cuz I keep getting visions of a vulture swooping down to feed those little chicklets.

yangtianli In reply to ErosDesigns [2012-09-30 07:05:44 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! [link] I quickly made a rough walk through for you. But I don't really have much tips and tricks for it...If you see the process, I basically just used the default airbrush to define the shape and form first, then used the hair brush to give it more texture, than added little strokes using another default brush (the one with sharp end)
hope it helps anyway...

I rarely feel that digital art has the depth and texture of that which was made with traditional media. This sure does though. O_O

raketenmann77 In reply to ??? [2012-09-26 17:34:23 +0000 UTC]

I really like the overall idea. The birds are wonderfully painted.
What I do not like about it is the harsh separation between foreground and background. To be more precise ... there is no background. I understand the idea of giving the girl a frame by using her hair. Maybe you could've expanded the idea of a frame by painting in a sky or adumbrate some kind of tree-stuff. A cyan sky would also interact with her warm colors very nicely. I think.
The more I look at it, the more I like the subsurface glow of the birds. Nice.

Thank you for your comment and the critique! I really appreciate it!

As for the background, you are right there's no background. My intuition just feels like it's an empty space and this is kind of surreal, so I didn't add anything. I kinda like the idea of it being so empty though But again thanks
