Description Back in the early 1920's the 13th Aero Squadron tested the XB-1A. The XB-1A was built by the United States Army Air Service Engineering Department and was based on the British Bristol F.2 Fighter. The XB-1A was not a successful aircraft, engine vibration problems made the aircraft unsafe to fly outside of gliding distance of Kelly Field.

Thanks Mark! I love old planes too, but this wasn't one of the most liked planes that the 13th Aero Squadron flew. We have the 13th's CO's comments to the War Department and they were not too good. It's weird too, since the Bristol Fighter was a pretty successful aircraft for the British, it just didn't work out for the USAAS. The 1920's saw a lot of experimentation and upgrades to aircraft technology, I have a feeling this aircraft was already obsolete when it was being tested.
