looks to me that she is painting the dragon out of the smoke in a back-street 1930s opium den...chasing the dragon i think they call it..anyway that is how i see it..love your paintings as you know..dont understand the title though????

Yeah, it's supposed to be a brush, as she is leaving a stroke of gold paint in the air and it becomes a dragon, but yeah, it looks like smoke so I get what you mean. As for the title, well my titles never really have a direct connection with the actual painting, it's more in a sorta abstract association in my mind. It's kinda hard to explain. For this one, well, an "autodidact" is a self-thought person, and the idea is that this charming Chinese lady has learn by herself to paint real dragons out of gold paint in thin air.... although it's souds really cheesy when explained like that, so yeah, normally I don't explain my titles. I like em better when they remain mysterious and ambiguous
