Description Vangaro watching the titillating moves of his first love, Sayurei Commissioned by *xNephthesx Sayurei's look is inspired by Rachel Brice, and may I just commend *xNephthesx for being one of those commissioners who are so *&@#ing lovely when it comes to giving me clear descriptions and references for her characters. I often quietly rage when people expect me to read their minds XD

It would be nice if female belfs could belly dance! The again, the troll women already did it first!

How's your monitor treating it? Not too dark, I hope? (And by that I mean you can see it properly on your monitor. The scene itself is supposed to have low light.)

On my main monitor it looks exactly as I want it to look, but I have a second monitor that's a cheap piece of crap that is my simulation of a "worst case scenario". While my picture is supposed to look like crap on the second monitor, the picture should at least still be visible. So here's hoping that the picture's settings allow it to be viewed decently across several types of displays!

They will, it's just the process of leaving my current raiding group. I kind of love those scrubs, but they also piss me off.

Gorgeous Yapi! the only thing she needs in my opinion are zills (finger cymbals). Every bellydancer needs zills.

yapi In reply to nemesyis [2012-01-28 13:32:18 +0000 UTC]

Thank you!

Haha, there weren't any zills on the references I was given (and yeah, didn't really know that bellydancers use them), so unfortunately Sayurei just has to do without XD It's a nice suggestion though, wish I heard it while I was still on the sketch phase!

...Speaking of which, I jus realized I should link the WIP shots in the artist's comments, haha!

lol, i used to belly dance many many many moons ago hehehehe.

there's alot of accessories you could have given her other than zills. veils to dance with, ballance a scimitar on her head, a walking cane, or even a candelabra with lit candles on her head.

there's all kinds of fun stuff to dance with when belly dancing.

Sayurei doesn't use Zills in her dancing. She doenst really do traditional bellydance. I've instead taken refferances from Rachel Brice, Shannon Kihara and Zoe Jakes. Tribal really fits Sayurei a little better than traditional belly dance. ^.^

Los damos her right hand is fricking graceful!
And the small, pearly like details...nomz. I think the fav detail on her is the headdress Also, the lower backpart, just above where the skirt starts...lovely, looks like the real thing...

Then I saw the cake and got hungry! D:

Oh wow, I can't even start describing how much I love this drawing! I don't know where to start! D:

Well first of all, I love Sayurei's outfit. So much details that I find new stuff when I look elsewhere. I love the flowy skirt, the flowy details of the top, the tattoo, the bracers, the roses and the rest of the things on her hair, THE GOD DAMN POSE!

I just can't stop looking at the picture, damn you Yapi! :'D

yapi In reply to Avelineh [2012-02-13 13:16:57 +0000 UTC]

Thank you!

I was given several references for the outfit, so it was heavily influenced. It was fun putting in the details, though! And yeah, the pose was really fun. I love doing flowy poses like that; they're usually the ones that I never need references for ^^ The movement just makes it flowy and easy to draw!

its a lil dark. maybe add more light to the lamp in the room?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

yapi In reply to KatherineSerene [2012-01-28 07:44:30 +0000 UTC]

Nah I don't want to add more light sources to it. I was asking if it was dark in the way that it can be seen properly on the monitor. But the scene itself is supposed to have low light

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

KatherineSerene In reply to yapi [2012-01-28 08:15:46 +0000 UTC]

Yeah it still pretty dark. Kind of hard to see some of the details. I was thinking of a way that you could keep the low light but brighting the drawing. but i think all over in needs to be brightened (just a hair)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

yapi In reply to KatherineSerene [2012-01-28 08:27:55 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, it's my final layer overlay. The picture has a brighter mix before it but it felt flat so I added an overlay that darkened some places, which added more depth to the picture. Although not *all* details are meant to be clear, or else that removes emphasis from the main figures. Example, everything in the back is supposed to be a bit hard to see, but not appear as one solid color.

(BTW, I'm not saying I'm rejecting your view on it, I'm just trying to check if you understand what I meant about what is necessary darkness and just plain "everything is just brown D:" darkness!)

The thing, is, if I do brighten this thing by "just a hair", I already get a "blargh, too bright" feeling about it. BUT that's my monitor and my current monitor has a higher contrast than my old one. But then maybe most people's monitors have a closer display to my old one so I'm wondering if I should adjust it to that color setting in order for people to see what I'm seeing on my monitor NOW.

Ugh, such a hassle, all these different displays!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

KatherineSerene In reply to yapi [2012-01-28 08:43:49 +0000 UTC]

Im sorry. Its your art work if you feel its not too dark. then its not. I have a super nice Imac that TOO bright for its own good... so it seems darker for me. DAMN DISPLAYS!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

yapi In reply to KatherineSerene [2012-01-28 08:47:09 +0000 UTC]

No no, don't be sorry! That's what I was saying in the first place, that it's NOT too dark on my own monitor, but for all I know, it could just be an indecipherable mess on other people's monitors! XD That's what I'm afraid of

Hmmm I'm on a Macbook Pro so our displays might *actually* be a bit similar! And yes, the contrast on it is quite strong, isn't it?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

KatherineSerene In reply to yapi [2012-01-28 08:51:44 +0000 UTC]

omg. my backlight is more of a small sun trapped behind glass. I need to set my colors. there all funky in my sketch book pro. off slightly. Maybe its my computer. i should calibrate...

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

yapi In reply to KatherineSerene [2012-01-28 09:03:49 +0000 UTC]

Haha! What I actually do is I check it on three monitors just to make sure it looks decent on all of them, but I'm still paranoid that it won't look good on the monitors of the people who watch me on DA!

This is my current workspace setup (except now that black Macbook has been replaced by an iPad ): [link]

KatherineSerene In reply to KatherineSerene [2012-01-28 08:57:58 +0000 UTC]
