I've always imagined that trolls can always grow back a limb slowly as long as the area wasn't burned off or burned, like how the hydra could always grow back its heads as long as the stumps weren't burned like in teh legend of Hercules :3

Aye, well that is how I thought it worked too ^^ but some think that their characters deserve their disfigurements and so keep them as they are ^^

I know plenty of people who do that, or replace disfigurements with impressive feats of engineering 
To be fair, we've never seen firm lore evidence stating how powerful the healing ability of trolls really is, so we can only speculate!

All too true! Though I've actually seen some incredible RP with characters using prosthetics. Not cybernetic limbs, actual prosthetics made from wood or metal. I always find the kind using those rather than engineered limbs tend to seem a smidge more atmospheric, because they can't act as if they never lost the limb at all.
