Actually, he's just shy around women and different types of women(Latino, African-American, Caucasian). He's a foreign student from Japan(and he's in a world where women have bigger breasts), and he's adjusting life in America. His gentlemen like antics were what this character(Bella) got her so attracted to him. He also has 3 other admirers.
