Deerleap giggled quietly. She knew she was probably too old to act like this, but she also knew she didn't care. What was it Mintstreak had said about this anyway? "It would be fun." Those were his exact words and they had been in her head since... When did she realize she was expecting kits? Yesterday? Or maybe the day before? Badgergaze had pointed it out, asked her if she knew. The tabby, upset about it (she hadn't really wanted these kits), had snapped at her son, saying that of course she knew. Of course, she had apologized later, but she had had to wait until she was comfortable with the idea of adding to their family, especially now, so soon after her old clan had tried to tear her home apart and taken her only daughter, who she loved dearly, though at times, she admitted, their relationship was strained due to her frequent mood changes. She had had to wait until she was comfortable with it until she told Mintstreak, and now, she was trying to let it start out fun like he had said. The tan she-cat crouched behind the reeds and watched her mate stare out at the lake. With another quiet giggle, inaudible above the wind in the reeds and the noise of the lake, she leaped onto the back of the unsuspecting tom. She laughed gaily, and cuddled into him.
"Surprise," she purred, nuzzling his cheek.

"What are you doing, Deerest?" The ginger and white tom asked, licking her cheek affectionately.

"Trying to make it fun," Deerleap answered cryptically, her purr still rumbling in her throat.

"Make what fun?"

"Guess," she teased, a smile on her face.

"I don't know. Tell me." His mew was happy as he spoke.

"No way," the small she-cat refused his demand. "You have to guess."

"Fishing?" He guessed with an over-exaggerated sigh.

"You weren't fishing," she pointed out in a teasing tone.

Mintstreak sighed again. "No, I suppose I wasn't," he agreed. "Tell me," he said, paused, and then added a pitiful 'please.'

"Kits," Deerleap mewed, the single word ringing out clearly. "I'm expecting kits," she clarified, the playful mood almost completely gone.

"Oh..." Her mate was at loss for words. "This... This is a good thing, right?" He clearly didn't know how to take this news; he hadn't known the first time, either. The she-cat nodded slowly and deliberately. "Ok," Mintstreak mewed, and that was that.

They sat in a comfortable silence, cuddling and cleaning one another. "Remember that time you threw a fish at me?" Deerleap was the one to break the silence.

Her mate laughed and nodded. "Of course I do. How could I ever forget the look on your face?"

I got this done way sooner than I expected I would, seeing as how we [my family and I] had to make an emergency trip to New York for a funeral. Anyway, enjoy and be on the lookout for more news ! c;
