Mirkwood was one of my favourite settings in the Hobbit, and this really captures the mood of the book-Mirkwood perfectly. It looks dark and oppresive, while the bare tree limbs give the illusion that the trees are sick and dying. You've done an amazing job creating the scene here.
If this is version one, I am very interested in what the other version/s will look like!

I looked at the other version, and I think you're right in it being a little too...non-despairing for Mirkwood. That being said it is still a very beautiful photograph! I really do admire your skill.
