Description
Vintage advertising "trade card" for spool threadCirca 1880s
Donaldson Bros. publishers
"J & P Coats Six Cord Thread
Is Used By THE WORLD"
Trade cards typically have a picture on one side and an ad on the other.
There were custom cards printed for specific products, and stock cards which could be used for any product. Trade cards were popular for medicines, sewing, and farm equipment, and a range of other products.

This one really knocks me out. The Victorians must surely have been obsessed with frogs and toads, i.e. The Wind in the Willows.

Heck, I adore them too, and it's 117 years later! (And I think the Wind in the Willows is Edwardian. Published in the early 1900's, IIRC)

I am glad to know another person who loves the styles of the era. I particularly enjoyed The Wind in the Willows, when I read it years ago.

Whuh?
I've seen some pretty far-fetched ad, but this one makes no sense whatever. Spools as wheels, maybe, but the frogs?
