One thing I will never understand is why you keep uploading JPG files instead of PNG files. Especially for this one. Due to all the noise on this, JPG has probably totally ruined the quality.

Wait, you mean the noise ISN'T meant to be an artistic effect that I've been chewing myself over how to achieve it?

The noise itself in this image is likely an artistic choice by Yhrite, but the JPG format compresses stuff, and image compression hates noise.

It's something I always seem to forget to do, I'm usually spitting out more stuff on Tumblr and tend to save as JPEG

I'll try and save more as png from now on, if my goldfish of a brain can remember to!

But Tumblr supports PNG as well.

Files upload a hell of a lot quicker though, at least on my internet anyway!

For images that have a lot of grain to them like this one does, PNG doesn't make a very big difference in quality, and makes huge files. I think JPG is appropriate for this. There are some banding issues in the glow from the lamps and blurriness on Scout's face, and if that's not in the original render, using higher quality settings when saving as JPG might help avoid the banding while still making smaller files than PNG.

I usually prefer PNG, but I don't think it's the ideal solution here. That said, the exact size and quality can depend on the specific image, so if you have a minute to spare, I recommend experimenting with both before deciding. The only thing I can recommend for certain is that if you're saving as JPG, never save below 80% quality unless you're specifically trying to make artefacts, it's just not worth it.

Probably, yeah. I just rarely have much to do, so that's not much of an issue for me. But PNG is still (slightly) better quality.
