I like this guy a lot... at first look it looks simplistic, as just a big piece of robot... but then I realized the intricate work with the machinery and cables.
I can see a lot of cool solutions to usual problems drawing machine-things in this pic, how the black tones help to insinuate the presence of the different parts. Also I like the simple shading, helps a lot to sculp the robot... nice one I say!

haha u got me there man...the black tones is something i swiped from mignola. really does help to bring out the different parts of the machinery. The simple shading is something i swiped from Leinil Yu and Travis Charest...im not very original actually. I take techniques from artists that i like and i try to incorporate them.

well, thats the first step always... I think that no one can come up with something new without inspiration... we incorporate the things we like and we learn from the people we admire, we cant just ignore those things, and as we polish them we can come up with something of our own... so dont be so harsh on yourself dude
