I actually think I saw a few cutscenes on youtube that both Sonic's can free the same person. Is there like a split storyline that you can play more as one or the other Sonic?

Only some parts are different sadly. You have to play with both Sonic's through the one level before you can unlock a character. Whoever you use last gets the small 'talk' with the person they free XD I always use Classic :3 the only scene that is different is the mirror scene. Look it up :3 theres two sides. ON one side you could be looking from Modern's point of view or Classic's :3 I haven't gotten classics XD Its rare to see it on youtube
