Description
* SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER *Have you read the novel Airman by Eoin Colfer, you know the guy who gave us Artemis Fowl? Not yet? Well, what are you waiting for?! Not only does it contain a breath-taking plot that kept me glued to the book for three days, there's the coolest character EVER in it. A blind musician -spy who's been imprisoned, but still is the coolest wize cracker ever. He's managed to survive in the worst prison on (and partly below) Earth's surface..
I cried like a baby when he was 'released.'
Text from Airman by Eoin Colfer:
Conor squinted across the cell's gloom. A pair of long, thin legs poked from the shadows. A skinny wrist was draped over one knee, long fingers tapping imaginary piano keys.
'You did this?' asked Conor. 'The dressing? I have... I had a friend who was good with medicines.'
'As a young man, I rode with the Missouri Ruffians for a year during the Civil War,' said the man, his accent American. 'I learned a little about medicine. Of course, when they learned that I was a Yankee spy, Jesse James himself took a poker to my skull. I suppose he he thought I'd seen enough.'
'Thank you, sir. I was not expecting kindness in this place.'
'And you won't see much,' granted the Yankee. 'But what you do see shines like a diamond in a bucket of coal.'
He stood slowly, extending a hand.
'Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Linus Wynter. With an Y. In the middle of Wynter, you understand. You will be seeing a lot of me, but I won't be seeing much of you, I'm afraid.'
Wynter emerged from the shadows like a stack of brooms falling from a closet. A tall gangle of a man, over fifty, clothed in the ragged remnants of a once-fine evening suit. Like Conor, he wore a bandage. But his was where his eyes had been. Jesse James had done a thorough job with his poker, the scars of which ran in purple welts across Wynter's high brow.
2008, Pencils
I'm pretty happy with this, except from the darkness in the background. It's kind of uneven, but I wanted him to kind of merge into the shadows and think it worked out pretty well. It was a while since I did a graphite drawing. I like his face, first he looked a bit like Kalyan but now he looks like John Fogerty. Hmm. I also like the rats, altough they were never mentioned in the book. But no dark, damp prison cell is complete without a couple of hairy little fellas, right?

It was a great story, too bad not more people are aware of it. Eoin Colfer is a great writer, I always loved his Artemis Fowl books.

Yeah, especially Linus! Where would Conor be if it wasn't for him? Probably on the bottom of one of those mining shafts.
Thankyou!

I wonder how the story would end if Conor was indeed left at the bottom on a mining shaft. It would be just... he starved to death or something. No justice is served. The end. D;
Go Linus!

Thank you! Yes, I like when the picture I write matches the picture in my head and this is how I imagine Linus (but he looks a bit like John Fogerty.)
Of course my horse!
