Description

One should not fight the freedom of speech with terror. One can not fight art with suppression.

I hereby wish to offer my compassion to all the people out there, supporting the protest against the horrible terror act which took place at the newspaper office of "Charlie Hebdo" in France, Paris.

These AGENTS where professionally trained, this attack happened just days after France recognized Palestine statehood, coincidence? hell no,
at the end of the day who benefits from these attacks, MUSLIMS? no way, look at the hate the MEDIA is stirring toward Muslims but not a word about what Netanyahu said a month ago...that same media & all banks that is controled by Zionists, its just another self inflicted wound
& the world is falling for it again & hype it up as if its 9/11 again, i dont mean disrespect to this artwork or the victims, but think about it:
When Christians kill 3.3million with WMD contaminating all our food/watersupplies worldwide in the name of Democracy we look the other way,
When Breivik killed 78 teens, we didnt attack all Christians or held marches against them
When the IRA bombed for decades, we didnt nuke the Vatican or protest against Catholics & when u have Critique on Israel doing the same since 1947 as Hitler did to them we call it antisemetic, but when a few use Allah's name, the world is on fire & we say freedom of speech is under attack
Bullshit no such thing as a free press or freedom of speech 3 already blocked me after some critique on this slogan (so not the person or artwork)
that should say enough that we only like freedom of speech when u go allong with what the MSM puts down our throat as if they never lie
world press on this 24/7...anyone?: rt.com/news/208187-israel-fran…

What happened is really sad, they didn't deserve to die, the terrorist had no right to attack.
But their deaths shouldn't make them "heroes", just because you are an artist doesn't give you the right to use the "freedom of speech" as an excuse to be an asshole

Nijimun In reply to ivanprz [2015-01-11 18:47:28 +0000 UTC]

well they are an atheist magazine, they mocked all religions for satire and humor

they may have been rude, but the extremists didn't have to take it seriously

ivanprz In reply to Nijimun [2015-01-12 21:12:03 +0000 UTC]

Jesus Christ, why can't people learn to freaking read?? How many times do I have to repeat myself?

THEY DIDN'T DESERVE TO DIE, THE TERRORIST HAD NO RIGHT TO ATTACK

what is so hard to understand about that??

besides just because they attacked "all" religions and not just one doesn't make it right to mock ANY religion in the first place. I could also argue about how they weren't even funny but that is a personal opinion so theres no point going there.

My only argument is that just because they died shouldn't make them "heroes"

We're not making them "heroes" we're making them martyrs
they are actually two separate things

"If the freedom of speech is taken away then dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep to the slaughter" Quote from George Washington. We have to much to lose if we just let acts of terrorism scare us into silence.

Terrorism will never win, as long as we stand against these acts. My heart aches for those who lost their lives and the families they left behind ...These things should never happen and it makes me so furious that it does. I wish with all my heart all of this could just stop, but it won't. All we can do is stand against this acts of violence and show future terrorist that these acts are meaningless and in fact has the opposite effect of what they want.

Now about this art, thank you artist for drawing such a powerful piece.

So the message is something among the lines of: "freedom of speech is a basic human right that shouldn't ever be punishable", but why the phrase "i am charlie"? i've read in an article that one of the attackers after the attack shouted something among the lines of : "we have killed charlie hebdo, we have avenged mohamed!" in my eyes it could be a message saying, i am charlie, you have not killed me. implying that you cannot brake the freedom of speech with violence, but i feel like that's not it. what was the original idea behind that phrase? what does it mean?

Ninjacat990 In reply to CyanMask [2015-01-09 17:58:19 +0000 UTC]

The name of the newspaper was charliehebdo. After the attack, the website went blank save the words Je Suis Charlie on a black background. The phrase Je suis charlie means I am Charlie or I follow Charlie hence the use in most of these pieces. I assume it means what you think; I am Charlie hebdo, and our freedom of speech will not be silenced

I guess it's okay now to be ignorant with freedom of speech too and only accept certain hate speech as freedom. That's how things work now and no, no one should die for any reason. But this world is filled with hypocrites anyway so it wouldn't matter what anyone says. We're all just one, big, dumb sheep

It is a tragedy what happened in France. It is inspiring to see so many people, including artists showing their support with this Je Suis Charlie campaign. It is also heartbreaking to know that ignorant people will blame and attack the religion of Islam and Muslims solely because of their faith. I would hope that people would respond positively like they did in Australia with the "I will ride with you" campaign where many people offered to ride with Muslims if they were scared of retaliation and harassment by ignorant people. Thank you for this beautiful piece, and for showing your support.

Anon-Axel [2015-01-09 03:33:41 +0000 UTC]

I am a Muslim. And those guys only made things worse for other muslims. They only gave people a reason to 'attack' Islam even more. People keep asking me what I think about the whole situation, which I find really weird. Why do I have to explain myself for what a few shitheads (Who know nothing about Islam) did? I personally don't want to be associated with people like them.

It's like asking every Christian if they associate themselves with Anders Breivik. etc. etc.

Now because of a few extremist 'muslims' people like me have to pay for it by being discriminated, beat up (like the pregnant muslimah), watched by everyone you pass and by being 'picked on' because people want to offend us now even more.

I want everyone to remember that also peaceful muslims, who do not agree with what happened, get offended because of what others did.
Do I like the fact that the mock Islam? NO. Do I think that the shooters were wrong? YES! The shooter did more damage to the muslims than before.

But now I gotta pay for what someone else did right? Makes sense.

It makes perfect sense that you don't want your name tarnished by a few people, and then everyone immediately assumes everyone is horrible. In that retrospect it's unfair

Karissa-Gradivus In reply to Anon-Axel [2015-01-09 14:55:19 +0000 UTC]

I took an Islamic Architecture class last semester, and I have to tell you it gave me a whole new respect for the Islam faith. I knew that many people were also victims of the discrimination because of the extremists. When I saw all the beautiful detail in the Mosques, I was just in awe. We saw pictures and building plans and videos, and overall I just couldn't understand how such a beautiful culture and faith became so distorted and villanized by a few extremists. It is truly sad and disheartening knowing that their are so many ignorant people who will automatically condemn the Islam faith and say the whole thing is evil, just because of these extremists.
