So... they are the standard parents. Mom wants lil Gian to eat healthy, so she get veggies everyday, while dad is more relaxed and when mom is not looking, he makes burgers and bbq for her.

You.. could say that, yes *coughs* Well, Calir is not as depending on food, as humans are ^^ He is more a vegetarian kind of guy, although he does occasionally eat meat/fish ^^ He gets everything the body needs from sunlight and occasionally supports it with the minerals, proteins and vitamins he can earn from normal food *smiles* OH AND TEA. <- he is a huge tea lover (almost stereotypically British) and he gladly experiments with tastes and new flavours XD
Kelvin is, like us when it comes to food; since he was used to the over spiced and dead-flavoured food from his world, getting used to the very basics of meals on AllegrΓa took him some time XDDDD

I know you don't care too much about the science behind it, but photosynthesis is not powerful enough to sustain a living being of a higher order than plants. That said, you could pull something out of your ass, like Calir's alien photosynthesis is much more advanced. (And it would make a marginal amount of sense, given his homeworld of perpetual light, evolution might make use of that sunlight.)
