No, he is not that kind of a person ;')
In fact what he does here, is a portrayal of inner strength to his opposite. The dagger he is holding is a very specific and mighty weapon. It was forged and created for him by Valdev, my friend's Naga alchemist. And this dagger is infused with the pain and suffering of those it has sliced; and so a mere cut will cause you almost unbearable soul suffering, while your body basically remains unharmed |D And what Lai does is to cut himself to understand how this weapon works, because he would not be able to wield and use it without getting a taste of its power >D

this cleaned up into even more of a spectacular piece. the addition of the butterfly says much, not to mention the thorough detailing of the weapon. i find it especially impressive how you manage the rain's distortion so nicely. things are obscured and robbed of focus with a sever transition. i see that as no less of a challenge than severe angle shots.
what intrigues me most about this is lai's complacence and focus. he is not hindered by the wound; hardly even showing awareness. his focus is on what it has brought forth. it articulates a great deal about his character and much that i admire in both of you. <3 <3 <3

I was astonished myself and very happy, since it kind of took me less time than expected and predicted first XD *lol*
I've defined and changed the light a bit in this one, defining the sources of it more and yet letting them stay hidden from the viewers perspectives; I don't know why but the setting (although it's blurred and all this stuff) reminds me of a street and the lights of a lantern and passing cars.. Don't ask me why, just a feeling ^^ <3
Yes, he is not showing the pain yet; this picture is basically that one single moment before the tsunami wave hits the shore. The pain will devour him only a second later, but right now.. right here.. he presents nothing less than the entirely determined and purposeful cut <3

You should be proud! I remember when you first saw that design, you were totally intimidated by it! You even maintained the flat depiction with lai’s outfit to avoid adjusting angle. With your chaotic approach to art, I can see exactly why something so geometric was so daunting. Yet you tackled this no less proficiently than your chargers. <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3
With the light effect and the idea you describe, I can certainly understand where that concept is locking down. your adjustment of the light could certainly be the splash of headlights. The dark and gray surrounding definitely has the feel of a quiet city street. I admit I hadn’t put the two together before your explanation, but it’s clear as day once mentioned. *U*
