The request sketch for ChaseYoungIsMine from that mess of requests I decided to take on.Now, Nicole was nice enough to give me a list of different ideas to work from, but evil enough to make them all ideas that I felt like drawing. 8( It meant I was very torn for a decision, and felt like I would have to put off her request for last. Thankfully as it turned out, I was able to decide on something in the end (and it may be that since last Sunday was Mother's Day weekend, it pushed me to go for this idea.)
I love Brightfame. I adore him as a character. And Livewire is one of my favorite DC female characters.
But don't misunderstand: according to how Nicole is writing Brightfame, he grows up with a very turbulent relationship with his mother as he's an adult. From what I understand, they almost never speak, and Brightfame hates his mother as much as he loves her, because of how he was raised. There are some people who just shouldn't be parents, and I personally think Livewire would be one of those people. She would be a terrible parent (as comes to be evidenced by Brightfame's mania and hunger for a truly close parent-child relationship as he gets older.) But, just because some people are bad parents, that doesn't necessarily mean that they don't love their child; they're just not cut out to really raise and care for their child.
And tough-as-nails, I-need-nobody bullheaded as she can be...I think Livewire would still love her baby. It would take her a long time to realize that, and I don't think that she would really be able to express or communicate that to Brightfame in a way he always understood, but I think somewhere deep down, she would still love him.

You already know I adore this Yoru! <33 I'm happy you choose this out of my requests and I kind of figured you would given your love of Brightfame and his mama. This is adorable and I am happy to see something sweet with them to break up the chaos of their relationship because I do believe she loves him it's just that showing it can be kind of hard.

8D Yaaaaaayyy~!! I figure that in time, there will be enough material to better show that they have a very turbulent relationship, so this sort of art will actually be rather uncommon. And I totally agree with you on that headcanon. It just seems like it's one of those parent-child relationships where a lot of the bitterness comes from the fact Livewire can't really express or show her love for Brightfame in a way that he understands it.

Yeah, something about her livin'-on-the-edge, devil-may-care personality just doesn't seem to inspire confidence that she would change into the maternal type just because she gets pregnant.
