Description
If the was ever a game that I’ve played last year that I felt was absolutely underrated. Absolutely overlooked for more than it should have ever been, it was definitely this wonderful gem known as Codename: S.T.E.A.M.
This game was one of the most enjoyable experiences I had last year despite any flaw the game actually had. I loved the crazy concept of controlling agents born from classic literature and are lead by Abe Lincoln in a steampunk world. I love the fun story that even with flat characters, took the player to places and twist that they wouldn’t ever expect. Also, the gameplay that really challenged me to take advantage of my environment instead of just trying to steam roll through the main path.
So I drew a picture with all the agents -- including the Fire Emblem amiibo extras -- NPC and Villains. I think I only forgot John Milton Hay who managed the options, but it’s fine. I stuffed as many as I could in there!
For anyone interested in a great Third person Strategy RPG. I honestly couldn’t recommend this 3DS game enough. Be sure to try the demo to get a feel of the game if you’re curious. And yes, they did fix that enemy turn issue that sped them up considerably.
Characters in no order: Abraham Lincoln, Henry Fleming, John Henry, Tiger lily, Lion, Tom Sawyer, The Fox (Made up relative of Zorro), Califia, Randolph Carter, Scarecrow, Tin Man, Dorothy, Queequeg, Stovepipe (Robot Lincoln/Human-sized A.B.E.), Katherine (Lincoln’s Right hand assistant), Ike, Marth, Lucina, Robin and Starface (villain).

This game was really cool, although I could get why it wouldn't be some folks' preferred cuppa' tea. I was hearing form GameStop employees that this game actually did sell really well state-side, a little better than in Japan. There were also strong hints from that GameStop employees that there might be an upcoming update that would give compatibility with the new Roy amiibo. unfortunately nothing confirmed as of yet.
I can't wait for word on the sequel to this game.

I honestly hope for anything remotely close to a sequel of this game. Nintendo has given sequels to games that haven't done all that well, so hopefully Codename: S.T.E.A.M. will get another chance.
Experiencing conversation with Gamestop employees before, I'm not too confident are this actually happening, sadly. It would be nice to get for for Roy and Corrin, too.

That's true. It's a shame, really... This was an amazing game!
Thanks, though!

Well dang, this turned up out of the blue.
I swear man, your works are starting to go from successfully uphill climbing a mountain in a national park to climbing Mt. Everest. Your works are starting to look like gorgeous professionally-created ensemble movie posters, even. If that's the case now, I can only imagine what they'll start to look like in the not-so-distant future considering the enormous progress you've made in such a seemingly short period of time. This game is not something that ever really struck my curiousity but I can appreciate the fandom it has, like our friend Smash for example who has created similarly amazing tribute works to it. Each character featured here appears lovingly crafted with fine detail and beautiful textures, not to mention the perfect lighting technique utilized to match up well enough with the game's steampunk theme. I think you captured the energy and spirit of the title with just the right amount of finesse and dedication, and I bet you'd be hardpressed to find someone involved with the creation of this game not finding a single thing in this beautifully arranged composition to smile about.
Keep up the wonderful work, dude!

Hey, thanks man! I'm glad that you like the overall design and progress. With how this came out, I think I found a comfortable style to actually flesh out and work on. I've even shown some of my instructors this and they agree that this should be my new standard. So I'll do my best to keep up with that.
Anyway, I know it doesn't really interest you much, but I do still recommend giving the demo a try. It's a very nice insight on how the game works and helps show how reward it is to take advantage of the maps. Definitely one of my GOTY's for 2015!

Hey man, been watching you make waves lately. Your art's been collecting favorites much more these days, your audience seems to be expanding much like in the same way Smash's, Mega10's, and Vega's has in recent years, and you're really gelling into your own groove. I think that's a pretty great sign of progress, I'll tell you that!
Mayhaps I will one of these days! I have a huge game backlog as it is though, so who knows what'll happen. xD I do give props to and appreciate neat game mechanics that are both creative and know how to make repetition appealing enough to keep on coming back for more.

It REALLY is under-appreciated. I don't remember it being advertised much though, and Splatoon was announced/came out right after, so I can definitely see why it might've got the short end of the stick. This is a beautiful piece though, it must've taken ages!

It actually had a decent amount of advertising on the internet and stores on it's release. Though, true. It had none on television or anywhere else which sucks. But a lot of things just seem to not role into the game's favor overall. People had problem with the art style, the enemy turns before the patch, gamergate nonsense erupted because of the voice actors and etc... Even though none of that bother me personally, this game just couldn't get a break no matter what. And most of time I see people talk of it as if it is a bad game simply because it flopped in sales. Which is unfortunate since this game is just brimming with potential to be Nintendo's own personal XCOM/Valkyria Chronicles. But here's hoping that the Big N will be a bit stubborn and go for a sequel anyway.
Also, thanks! This picture took around two afternoons to get done. I've been wanting to work on this every since the game's release, but decided to wait until I got all the agents.

I actually went to Nintendo's NY store a bit after it's release and the store's middle section was all decked out with sweet CNS decor~
Yeeeah, Henry's voice actor was kind of a dick if I remember correctly? I'm glad the whole "boycott the game because one voice actor said some bad things Nintendo likely did not know about" thing was limited to about 3 people on twitter though, lol. Also there's the fact that it was very challenging, nothing that I found FRUSTRATING, unlike some games, but I can definitely see people canning it for being too hard, too. And like you, I never found the enemy turns too long and never really skipped through them, worst case scenario I just put my 3DS aside for a minute or two and checked the internet.
Yeah, I'm really hoping they go for a sequel too, especially since the ending set up a nice concept for a robot invasion next time~

Wow... It would have been really cool if they gave those away. Wish I would have been there to see it! Being nowhere near the Nintendo NY store, local Gamestop near me at the most had cards and cool goggles they had to wear... For staff only, sadly.
Yeah, Alec Baldwin... He has done a few... inappropriate things that really have many see him in a very unfavorable view. Also, apparently Wil Wheaton -- who voiced Lincoln -- caused a stir up too simply because of his remarks concerning gamergate. I'll admit that I don't care for Baldwin's views, and I believe that Wil doesn't deserve any of the nonsense he got for the gg comments. But I definitely respect the fine job they did voicing the characters and actually prefer for them to keep their roles if a sequel was to ever be announced.
And yeah... that cliffhanger makes it even more unbearable to worry if this game may never get a sequel. They could really expand the roster with other famous folk tale/lore characters like Sherlock Holmes, Rosie the Riveter and etc. And with this game being made by Intelligent Systems, I'd love expect them to give the characters a bit more depth in their personalities for a more richer story.

There was just a decal on the ceiling and the table in the middle of the place had the demo out and said "top secret" and stuff, no googles unfortunately but that sounds so cool! I only got a John Henry card from my GS and didn't manage to snag a promo poster like a few people did. 3
Yeah, exactly. They're just voice actors~
I think the game would still be fine by itself but man would I love a sequel, I've seen a few people draw a Huck to match Tom Sawyer and stuff so a sequel would be super lovely if they added new characters~

Thank you! And yeah, I agree! It's quite the shame to see this game aggressively ignored. I would love to see this continue as a series. The potential is quite strong in it.

Definitely one of my favorite games last year. I never minded the enemy turns, nor did I think that they were all that long because I would use that time to switch between agents and observe what my enemies were doing and were they were facing. So I always felt like I was constantly doing something.
Though I do welcome that patch for those who wanted the enemies turns to go faster. I occasionally use it to save time, but I always switched it off whenever I thought it was beneficial to observe. It was cool of them to add the update into the eshop demo too for the sake of having the option. But I like it either way.
