Description First character illustration completed for THE OTHER SIDE!

I'm working on the rest of them as we speak, but expect the same amount of detail with all of them. (Remember, the first ones are the ones highlighted in the journal.)

I haven't decided that on how I'll release the others once there completed. Random Order? All at once? It'll be a while before they are all finished though.

The actual scenes won't be this detailed, so I can finish them faster. They'll be somewhere in between 'We're in the Dark' and this.

And as I said. Each character will go through some small design changes. You can see that Unitybrush looks a little different. With less bristles and the dull part near the tip curves in.

The metallic texture's insane on this one.

I really love your style on how you color things in. Makes it look all painted. What I really noticed was the gloves on this one. I wish I could make things look shiny like that

I'll give you a tidbit on how I made the gloves shiny...

You already know how to visualize light and shadow on objects, right? Well, first, I use a solid gray color. Then I use the burn and dodge tool, in low opacity, around the edges. I then took the color that resulted from the burn effect, and use it as paint, spreading it in the boundaries I previously planned for it. Same the the dodge mix.

As for the joints in the gloves, I drew a dark line over them, one favoring a darker version of the gray color. Over that, I drew a white line over them. Then I coated the shadows with a light blue, low opacity of course. And that's the result.

Thanks of the compliment.

Thanks, that will help a LOT I'm sure. Now I just need to draw something that I would want to use that technique on, lol.

Nice art style, as usual. It's like a cross between Strikers: Charged and Okami.

That's an awesome consideration (also, those are some of my favorite franchises.)

The angles and designs of the Mario Strikers Charged and Okami illustrations for some of my favorites.

Did you color over the lines to make it look "linelessny"? I might have to try this next time if so...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

YoshiUnity In reply to BlooperKoopa19 [2009-06-15 14:46:46 +0000 UTC]

Yes I did. It helps me especially since I'm more of a color artist, than a line artist, so I gave it a shot and it works.

If you want to give it a shot, I say go for it. I'll be glad to give you tips on anything you want to know.

This looks like it could be one of those Brawl character profile shots, you know what I mean? That's what it struck me as when I first saw it.

Oh yeah I remember those. I might add a little funny line with each one.

In fact, just like that Zelda character update on SSBB. I might pull a fast one and show an unconfirmed character out of no where.

This somehow reminds me of a fusion between BK Whop's and Vega's digital style a bit, heh heh.

Truly ballin' there dude, really likin' the depth of dimensionality showcased here. It's YU in your core element, ready to strike and attack wherever enemies may dare cross your path.

Exceptional work bud, I definitely think this one of your coolest yet and shows tremendous progress.

YoshiUnity In reply to Bowser81889 [2009-06-13 01:51:53 +0000 UTC]

I forgot who's BK Whop?XP

Anyway. A lot of our computer art pals were actually inspirations for this style. I've been watching their work for a good time now, wondering who they do what they do.

But anyway, thanks dude. I'm glad that the dynamic angle works for everyone. Plus, that it shows improvement.

Wow, very nice details! It has a great lineless and almost 3D design too. Looks great!

YoshiUnity In reply to MAGNUS-8M [2009-06-12 21:10:57 +0000 UTC]

Awesome. Thanks man.

I use to color underneath the lines, but after seeing some videos on youtube to see if I could get a better sense of adding such detail, turns out that a lot of people colored over them. So I gave it a shot.

MAGNUS-8M In reply to YoshiUnity [2009-06-12 21:52:51 +0000 UTC]

Oh, they do? Huhm. I still color under myself, but I've gotten too comfortable doing that...might be a while before I try that myself. Sounds great tho'..

YoshiUnity In reply to MAGNUS-8M [2009-06-13 01:47:07 +0000 UTC]

Yeah. I'm surprised too. But I guess it comes down to the art style you're use to to be honest. And since I'm more of a coloring artist than a line artist, I guess drawing over the line aids me more.

I recommend giving it a shot. Who knows, It might or might not work better for you.
