This is an excellent copy. It should be listed under "fan art" or similar though, because it isn't an original piece of artwork, it's a copy/ derivative.

I also noted that in your description you expressed the opinion that you had painted a referenced image but to you it was more a digital painting than a fan art. 
It just seems rather pot kettle to me.

It's a painting of a reference image. For me, it wasn't really fan art, more an exercise. It's pretty common to make studies of other artwork/photography etc, but it's important to show that it's not entirely your own. I can't think of a better category to file it under, so fan art will have to do.
