Day 5 of Titanic Week 2024 (WIP). My 100th Deviation

A light chop broke over the ocean as the sky was painted in bright reds and oranges.

Carpathia's gold lights shone from every porthole and more prominently from her gangway hatches. Her crew and even some of the passengers onboard kept ladders and slings steady as survivors were plucked from the boats. Once empty, the steam derricks had no trouble lifting the boats clear and stowing them on deck.

Anna had been picked up by Boat 12. At her pleas for him to be saved, Thomas Andrews' frozen body was pulled aboard as well. As dawn broke over the Atlantic, Boat 12 was the last one to unload. Thomas was taken to the ship's refrigerated hold, which served as a body storage. He was embalmed for the journey back to Belfast when Carpathia docked, again at his cousin's request.
The cuts in her leg and side as well as the cold night left Anna too weak to stand on her own, so one of the ship's senior officers helped her to the forward well deck - the First Class passengers and crew were gathered here. While Anna took her place among a group of similarly-stricken women, she was wrapped in a fresh blanket and given a steaming cup of tea. It was comforting to share the space, as many had also lost beloved men.
