Description
Just a side note about the legend, everything on the left of the key are entities under Germany's direct jurisdiction (i.e. directly part of the Reich) whereas states on the right are simply puppet/satellite states.*NOTE* This scenario is not meant to be realistic nor taken as truth, this is simply a projection based on both Nazi plans and Nazi capabilities of how Europe could have looked had they won WW2. This is not meant to offend.
This scenario assumes that Germany still declares war on the US in 1941, and that the Germans secure a much faster victory in the USSR. OTL, one of the main reasons Germany lost the war is because they were bogged down in a gruesome war against Soviet forces in the east, whilst still bracing for an Allied counterattack in the West. Had they secured the A-A line in say, 1942 or even early 1943, their chances of holding the Atlantic Wall and keeping Italy from capitulation were far greater. There was no way they were going to regain Italian lands in Africa, nor take the British Isles, but if the Atlantic Wall could hold firm against an Allied assault, Germany could drive the war into one of attrition for the Allies, until an even stronger force could be amassed. (That's why this map's date is 1946). Japan would still be defeated in the Pacific, but they would likely hold out longer without Soviet forces to drive them out of Manchuria. Atomic bombs would likely be employed against Germany as well, but I personally doubt it would drive Hitler to simply surrender, considering how stubborn he was. The war in Europe would likely intensify again in 1947, after Japan is inevitably defeated by the Allies.
WW2 scenarios like this are always more difficult to ponder than their WW1 counterparts, mostly because the feasibility of the Axis winning the war was ridiculously low. Unlike the Great War, which came down to the very last offensive, Germany had almost no chance of winning the war by 1942 due to tactical blunders by Hitler (*ahem* Stalingrad) and the foolishness of the Japanese to bring the American war machine onto the side of the Allies early into the conflict.
EDIT: Southern Italy, Crete, Corsica, Sardinia and the Dodecanese are no longer under Axis control. I simply believe the timeline is more realistic this way, as it is extremely doubtable that Germany could ever dislodge the Allies from Italy after they landed. This would result in a more Cold War-y scenario as Italy, France and Greece would be divided between the Axis and Allies.
